    Minor Electrial Problems

Hey Guys. I have a 90 Lx and lately I noticed when I am driving the car the head lights and interior lights are surging with the accelerator. Just now I noticed that the RPM needle was falling to 0 when the car was at idol around 750-800RPMs then it would catch its self. I changed the battery today cause it was old And I asked the local shop to test the alternator. Changing the battery didnt make much of a difference.

My real problem is I am in South America and sometimes the communication is difficult. Because of this the alt didnt get tested. I searched the threads and think I have it narrowed down to the alt. I am pissed I replaced the alternator less than 900 miles ago when I had the engine rebuilt. I put in a 160Amp Alt cause I was planning to run a large stereo system. Could this be the problem? Is there something I might be over looking? Is there a way to test the alt myself?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post

deffinatly sounds like a bad altenator. Many remanufactured altenators take a shit pretty early after instalment, especialy if you got the in a white box(no name on box).

Thanks for the advice everyone but it was a faulty ground wire. I replaced the battery cable on the neg side and it is working now

As for the faulty ground, how did you figure it out?voltage drop test or did it just look corroded?

The insulation was torn off of it and it was rusted pretty bad. I didnt notice it at first cause it was not in plain sight.
