???Open Deck, Closed Deck???

Ive been reading the info on here and i dont completly understand the meaning of open and closed, I did the search and all i got was people mentioning open and closed. I would like a definition, and the pros and cons.
from what i read F are open and H are closed, and that closed is more reliable, but i dont understand what the deck is and where is the line in which open is bad.

92-96 h22's are closed deck, 97+ h22's are open deck there isnt really that much of a difference unless you are going to go turbo, closed decks are somewhat stronger then open when it comes to boosting due to cylinder walk in an open deck. If someone posts pics its much easier to understand but basically open deck theres a gap between the cylinder walls and the block and closed deck there is no gap.

The open gap he's referring to is the coolant passage that surrounds the cylinder. On an open deck block you can see the passage around the cylinder because it is open at the "deck" of the block. A closed-deck block has those same coolant passages surrounding its cylinders but is closed at the top for added strength. Basically the same thing as a block-guard so not much more protection if you plan to boost.

Thnx guys, im glad i didnt get flamed. lol i jsut read the vetech post and i was laughing a bit. Thanks for the clear up and i def want an h23 now, cause of strenght power duarability, and HOT SHIT factor. lates.
