hey i was just wondering about the speed sensor. i called honda here locally and these jack asses said that the part that goes into the tranny is for the power steering and which it is but they are also telling me that the sensor on top of the mechanism is also for the power steering in which it is not. they are trying to tell me that the speed sensor is behind the gauge cluster in the dash which i don't think it is. the reason i am asking is because i just bought a new speed sensor installed it and it is not working. i don't know if there is a fuse that could be blown and i don't know about it. my mileage doesn't work nor does my speedometer. if anyone can help me out with this it would be a great help.

having the same problem but my ecu throws a CEL at me and the idle speed starts missing and drops down to like 100-200 rpm and bounces to like 500 rpm every couple of seconds. But if the speedometer is working (its cutting on and off) i don't get any CEL's and the idle is fineKnowledge is power...in EVERY sense of the word

Well.... The vechile speed SENSOR is mounted on the transmission. Because it's a SENSOR it's sensing the vehicles speed. Now if you had an older accord with a speedometer cable then yes they would be right the sensor would be in the cluster.
Check your connections to make sure they are good. Also make sure that the gear off the diff that turns the VSS turns.
About the relation with the power steering, I think the reason it's like that is it's a type of Speed sensative steering, meaning the faster the gets, it redirects the power steering fluid to make the rack stiffer giving you tighter steering. That's a mechanical system though. Atleast on the tranmission end (I think). Hope that helped.

This is kinda obvious, but you did install the VSS with that little half inch metal pin that goes with it?Last edited by thatsitbelowradarSTL; 04-17-2004, 03:04 PM.Originally posted by fizzbob7 i think the "jdm everything" craze is funny........it's the same thing, a fad.......and an overpriced one at that

i checked all the connectors and they were fine. my question is this if my actual gauge cluster is broken will or won't the speedometer not work? my temp gauge isn't working so i was thinking that the actual speedometer isn't working. the reason i asked is because the VSS is fine and the thing it mounts to is fine. i still throw code 17. is there anyway to check the gauge cluster or should i just by a new one? it is a 5 speed
