    Diagnostic help needed!

My '03 Accord EX coupoe has a couple problems, any idea why?

    1) Engine stalled while cruising between 40 - 50 mph - This happen twice in a month. The engine would just get cutoff, all the gauges, electrical system, stereo is still working. I shifted to neutral and restarted the engine within seconds. Spark plugs, distributor caps, wires, and fuel filter have been replaced.

    2) After replacing stock struts with Bilstein HD, it appears like we have raised the ride height by 2" !

Sounds like the ignition switch....very common on 4th gens. The only way to check it is to remove the upper and lower steering column covers and check the ignition switch terminals on the lock cylinder. If the solder connections are melted, the switch is bad and must be replaced.

Take it to the dealership and have it looked at. If you have a 2003, you should be able to have them fix it for no cost, or at least see where the problem is at.

If ur talkin 03 then go back to the dealership. If its s 93 then its probably your ignition. Mine went bad about 2 years ago. It cut off and I couldnt start the car because the ON position was shifted back. The only way I got home was to start the car up, and pull it all the way back to the ACC position. I think the part was about 60-80 dollars. Pretty easy fix. Hope you get it workin.

It happened again yesterday twice in a roll. I was pulling up hill with ~ 1/4 tank. The engine suddenly cut off. Again the electrical system was fine, radio was still playing. I pulled over, and was able to restart rightaway. After another block or so, it did it again. I was able to restarted it again. Thinking it was fuel related, I filled up at a gas station nearby. Afterward, I ws able to drive 25 miles on the streets to get home. I don't think it's the module because I don't have to hold it, and this occurs while the car's in motion. Any thought?

It could be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay acting up. Run a test on them both. The Haynes manual shows you how. You should also test your alternator as it could be losing its ability to hold charge. Start the car and then disconnect the battery and if it dies out then you've got a bad one. And I've also worked on a car with a bad ignition coil. It will overheat and stop working but once it cools down enough your car will start back up and run fine until the coil overheats again.

I was considering a fuel line flush. I actually have not thought about the alternator nor the ignition coils at all. I can always restart the car with in a minute of stall, could the coil cool down that quickly? if the alternator is bad, wouldn't the battery go bad quickly?

                  Thanks for your reply.

I talked to my mechanic today. He also think it's fuel supply issue. He suggested that I swap out the Fuel pump relay first since it's easy and less expensive. If that does not work, he think we should replace the fuel pump. I have 135K miles on my '93 EX. For those of you with higher mileage on the CB7, whed did you had to replace your fuel pump? Would you guy recommand original Honda parts (~ $280) or other cheaper alternatives?

                    Thanks

Car stalled 5 times while idleing during warm up. What could it be?
