    Bouncing Idle Again?

haha, you might find this strange...because i sure as hell did.

My accord would rev itself when idling and i always assumed something like vac leak or something like that...BUT, this morning i was feeling bored so i decided to flush my rad because it deffinatly needed it anyway...SO finished that job up...let the new stuff flow through turned it off and went back inside.

Turned on the car to go places 3 times since, and the idle stays in one spot, not random at all now.

If anyone could explain to me how this fixed my idle i would LOVE to hear it...because it remains a mystery to me.

OK before you get a barrage of flaming posters telling you to FUCKING SEARCH, I'll point you in the right direction, this time.

The F.I.V or "Fast Idle Valve" is Bolted to the Inlet Manifold.
Two Hoses from the Cooling System go to & from the F.I.V.
The F.I.V is a WAXSTAT Type of Valve meaning the Hotter the Engine gets the hotter the wax gets.
When the Wax gets hotter it expands and pushes a valve closed, blocking off the Air By-Pass Passage resulting in a drop in revs from 1500 to Controlled Idle.
If there is no coolant flowing through the hoses because of air pockets or kinked hoses, then the F.I.V can't heat up and in-turn the wax stays cold, therefore can't expand to close the valve, which keeps the Air By-Pass Passage Open.
The Air Pockets in the Coolant can stop the Coolant Temp Sensor from sending a correct signal back to the ECU to say what temperature the engine is at.
The Engine also receives a signal from the Throttle Position Switch to say it is @ 0% open and OK to operate IAC Valve.
The IACV is used to INCREASE airflow at idle during high load conditions such as a/c usage and power steering. It does not have the capability to substantialy lower the idle as the motor inside is used to open a port to increase airflow. This port is not open with the IACV unplugged and thats why we set base idle to 450-550 RPM with the valve unplugged. This will allow for a 200-300 RPM reduction in response to a small leak but that is the only room that it has to reduce flow. Idle surge is purely a function of the ECU cutting off the fuel injectors in response to a high idle with a closed throttle plate. The excess fuel burns off, the injectors cut back on and the whole cycle starts over again. That cutoff point seems to vary a little between cars and is somewhere between 1200 and 1500 RPM. This is why it is critical to BLEED the COOLING SYSTEM after Flushing with the CORRECT Coolant Mix of 50:50.

    Get It?, Got It?, Good!!

Guru, I've seen a lot of your posts in the last few weeks, and I really appreciate the solid info you give and the time you take to deliver it.

However, it really seems like you're doing it to make yourself "cool" or something. Seriously, I expected the same old problem when I clicked on this, but the guy wasn't asking how to fix his idle, he's saying he HAS fixed it. Sure, he probably could've searched(though trust me, there's SOO many threads about this that it makes it hard to sort through) and found the answer, but maybe posting this up will help somebody else who is searching for a way to fix it.

I just think you should take time to read what the guy is saying before you copy and paste your Shopkey.

Well, I read the last line it it sounds awfully like a request for info.

I could have left it at FUCKING SEARCH! but I couldn't really find any other posts that explains in detail how the FIV actually works. If people know how things work then they can understand why things fuck up and they know how to diagnose it correctly to fix it themselves. What wrong with that.
Yes, it was for future reference to New Members who are not sure how coolant effects idle. That was the whole point in my reply.
As far a the ShopKey remark I don't need to Copy & Paste from there. I resourced my info from 26 years of On the Job experience, Learning from my peers, Factory Training Courses and reading my Workshop Manuals.

BTW: I've gone through some of your posts as well and I think you could do with a bit of help understanding How Things Work.

I will continue to share my knowledge in detailed posts, if you feel threatened by it, then don't fucking comment.

Sorry bud but if you said YOU couldn't find it and you're a guru in this site, why are you complaining to me?

Thanks for the info though, appriciated.

Geez, how long did it take to come up with that intelligent answer ya fuckin' knob.
              How old are you? 6
But you are right in one sense, you can't claim to know everything, because you need a bit of basic commonsense for that, something that you obviously lack. By reading your posts I doubt it if you have the brain power to learn or show off anyhow.

                No Worries Mate
I wasn't complaining to you, I was pointing out to the other prick that you requested info and I offered it.
I noticed that you only had a few posts up your sleeve and was giving you the heads up on what some of these smart little piss-ants are like,
and after that little episode from Bluejayde you can see what I mean.
The poor little bugger feels threatened by my knowledge.
Because a person is relatively new on here, you have to tread lightly with their fragile little ego's.
Bluejayde sounds like another one of those Whinging little Seppo's who had a Sense of Humour By-Pass after 9/11.

                Cheers

just cause you dont need the info doesnt mean that someone plagued by this problem who has tried everything else on the site to try to remedy it (someone like me, perhaps...) couldnt use this info, regardless of whether the guy asked for it, perhaps, in his intelligent thinking, he thought that the title and the first post of how he fixed it would draw somone here. someone wanting to know more than just that changing the coolant fixed it, but rather how the changing of the coolant fixed it...

Yo blue ,, i think you are a bit off line here,, he was trying to do what a good tech does, explain how the system works,, once you understand how something works it is a hell of a lot easier to diagnose and repair
