ok, I have a 91' w/ an H22 and matching auto tranny
. I bought the car the way it is. Its has thrown a cel since I got it. I checked it and it says its the EGR valve. So, I check it and it has a block-off plate, the egr valve is still there also. So, I took off the plate and put in a new gasket and some gasket sealer and re-installed the EGR valve. Then it ran like crap if I could even get it to stay running. So, then I take put it back the way it was and it runs fine again. What is the deal? this yellow light is really annoying at night.

^^^^True, in most cases it probably wouldn't hurt to just buy a new ERG, and intake cleaner. I'm going to try and find a thread about this chemical that has worked wonders for guys. You apparently put this stuff in the intake and let it sit then run the car for 15 min. and it just pumps out black smoke....Originally posted by wrichards2005Its either because its unplugged like AccordAnimal said, the ports are dirty, or you have a malfunctioning/dirty EGR valve.
I'll get back to ya

ok...
I did clean the contacts. Yes, it is plugged in correctly the vacuum is working properly I started the car with the egr off and the block-off plate still on and the valve opens perfectly fine. It looked pretty clean, but where might I get this seafoam you speak of? I went to the parts store to get an egr valve not only did they not have any instock but, it was almost $200. Also, any other suggestions would be great. i guess if new is the only way to go then it is what it is!

just do it the old fashion way..god you fuckers are lazy. take your fuel rail and injectors and then the cover and clean the egr ports. the fuel injectors seals probably leak anyway..so why not replace them and kill two bird with one stone.
if anyone ever turns their interior fan on and smells gas through the vents. your injector seals are leaking!
