the upper front ball joints have to be replaced as the whole upper control arm. (about 100 shipped for both)

Lower ball joints are on the tie rod ends(about 50 shipped for both sides i would say.

    Definately do it yourself.

If you've got AT LEAST a half inch drive breaker bar and a matching 36mm socket, then go ahead and do it yourself, it's really easy. However, I purchased a 3/4 inch drive breaker bar and matching 36mm socket to get it done because I broke not one, but TWO 1/2 inch drive wrenchs.

Buy Honda OEM ball joints, otherwise, at least with the lowers, you get about a 50% chance of them fitting properly.

        Good luck.

I suggest doing this if you want to do it yourself for quickest and fairly cheap route (EBay might have better deals on parts but you wait on shipping & can get jacked on bad/wrong parts).

I checked both Advanced Auto Parts & Autozone prices, ranges are given depending on which you go to.

Left upper ball-joint (sold as arm only): $80-90

              Left lower ball-joint (ball-joint only): $23-30

Haynes Manual for 90-93 Accord: $15

Note: You may need to buy a few tools. First, read the manual & then make your list & go to Sears, etc to buy tools. Think about it this way, if you like to work on your car...you'll always find more use for these tools later.

Read up and do it yourself. Also, about your tire wear issue up front, if the front left tire is still decent just rotate front tires to back. In case you need details, take front-left tire and switch with rear-left. Do same to other side. If they are bad, go to Sears, Discount Tire or something like that NOT Honda for new tires/mounting/balancing, etc. Why?

Also, change your oil yourself yo. If you don't do it yourself because you don't feel comfortable, etc...then ignore everything I just wrote & save up!! Just keep saving while your at it too, cuz you'll need it for the life of any vehicle ya have man.

BTW..if you're really sick of Honda Dealers....then you should tackle this project yourself. Otherwise, you just blowing smoke up your own a$$. Put your words into action. Besides it should be fun & you'll learn something new.

Why do you go to a dealer...dude I can do my own oil changes when its warm out..plus in the winter time I can have someone do it for me for like 12-15 dollars.

Honda is too damn expensive because the parts are made overseas. Thats why you pay too much.

If the cars is yours, prove that you can do the job. Then, next thing you'll know is your mom will ask you to work on her Civic and keep it maintained. That's not bad, but when you suddenly have 5 cars to maintain, then it gets to be a pain in the a$$. Especially when 3-4 are always needed and need to be road-worthy 24-7. As you can prolly guess...I'm the lucky one in that respect.

But I enjoy it for the most part cuz I keep learning new things. 4 out of 5 cars we have are Hondas (88 Integra, 90 & 91 Accord, 01 Odyssey, 87 Sable wagon). I just don't like it when other cars take priority over mine and my little side projects get delayed. Also don't help 3 out of the 5 cars have been over 200k+ miles. Living in Michigan, land of the road salt/rust, doesn't help. After this milestone it comes time to replace suspension bushings, coil springs, struts/shocks, parking brake cables, reman calipers, new rotors & pads, reman starters/alternators, ignition coils, etc...all in addition to regular maintenance. Some of these parts wear naturally with such mileage.

                      As Zigenballz would say.... BLAH!

i paid 22bux for the lower joint and 40 to get it put on.
if i was to replaceed the top one i might have spend the same amount so a total of 120bux maybe.

i kno some mechanics so i get the hook up

By the way, I had to have a machine shop get the lower ball joint out of the steering knuckle for me. It is so awkwardly shaped I couldn't press it out. I talked to a Honda mechanic and they apparently use an air-hammer to punch it out. I don't have that tool, but prolly will in near future. They charge me $20 a side = $40 total to remove/install lower ball joints. I the reinstalled the part and upper arms are hella easy once you already have the sh*t apart. If you need to replace your outer tie-rod ends...now would be a good time. Mine were OK, but had a little rip in both boots, I cleaned, regreased & put new boots on my tie-rods at this point. Those are like $40-45 a per side..I didn't change them cuz I had spent enough money by then. I will soon enough.
