can stale gas prevent my car from starting... it has been sitting almost 2 years... if so does it have to be drained or can it be mixed with enough good gas to work.

i would say you might have to drain, because the gas has been sitting so long in the gas tank, there could be rust particles mixed in and running it through your engine could be harmful. I would say try and siphen (sp) the old gas out and then put some new gas in.Originally posted by 613lxcan stale gas prevent my car from starting... it has been sitting almost 2 years... if so does it have to be drained or can it be mixed with enough good gas to work.Audi A4 2.8 Quattro Sport

shake the car, but unless some sort of weird unknown fluid separation occurs, it should be fine. theres a filter/screen over the pump, any rust or dirt particles wont get sucked up, anything small enough to pass through the pump will be caught by the fuel filter...
id say follow the standard "my car doesnt start" checking procedure... check for fuel, spark, compression, etc.

sorry i didnt clarify. i didnt mean that anything definately separated, its some extreme guess that most likely isnt possible, but i dont know the chemical makeup of gas so i cant say. shaking the car to get the gas mixed around cant hurt, and thats why i suggested it.
i, personally, would just add gas, then throw in one of those fuel stabilizer thingamajobbers.
