    Getting old O2 sensor out?

I finally got a new O2 sensor, but the old one is stuck in there pretty good, and with it being under the car it's hard to get the necessary leverage. Plus, I can't find my breaker bar. Anyways how can I get it out? I'm gonna see if a shop will just take it out for me.

If you DIY, heat (propane torch) the area of the dp around the o2 sensor (bung) so that the metal expands away from it. Either the o2 tool or a large crescent wrench. I used the crescent wrench but a big 15" one I had!

i had this same trouble. real easy fix. either cut the old wires or take off the harness first and get a box wrench in the proper size over the o2 sensor. no problem, provided you've got a big enough wrench.

if at first you don't succeed, spray a shit ton of pipe break on there.

oh yeah, and if you do it after driving it'll help too, the pipes will be warm (constricted a bit) and that'll work in your favor.

oh i forgot to mention the easy way!

if you have a new o2 to replace it, smash the whole top of it off, so its just a single nut remaining. then its easy to fit a big box-end wrench in there.

Just hit it with a hammer or something? I'll give it a shot. Somehow I get the feeling a deep socket will do the trick though.

i just slide my body under the car and kick the wrench as hard as i can

a deep enough socket will work if you cut the wires off... but you wont have much room to get a breaker bar in there with the socket sticking up so high...

Lots of penetrating lube (wd-40, liquid wrench, stuff like that)... That's what I did

Well my socket completely separated from the sensor...so I don't imagine that being much of a problem.

I got it out and put the new one in. Hooray! No more CEL!!!

The old one was toast. If I wasn't lazy I would have taken a picture. Oh well...here's to respectable gas mileage!
