    Oil on spark plugs

Ok here is a problem i hope to get info about fixing. Lately, my 91 accord has had lower idle RPM and a slight rough idle. Pulled the plugs the other night to see how they were. Number 1 looked good, probably about time to replace plugs, wires, cap and rotor. No big deal. Number 2, oil on spark plug boot, oil down in tube on top of spark plug, didnt pull it so oil would not drop into combustion chamber. 3 and 4 same way.

Now I know about the grommets that are supposed to seal these tubes and should be changed when doing the valve cover, but what other possible issues do i have?

    Any info is greatly appreciated.

Its most likely just your spark plug seals, switch those out and it'll solve the problem. And if u do get oil down in the chamber, you'll just blow white smoke until it burns off.

    mmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... DOHC

No, because it's the tube seal (at the valve cover), or the O-Ring (halfway down the tube, between the head and the rocker arms). That's all it could be.

cool, look like i'll change the tube seals this weekend along with new plugs. If it turns out to be the o-rings, what is involved in that repair? Would I have to pull the rocker arm assembly ? Never gone that far into a honda engine. GM and Ford i am OK with.

to change the o-rings, you have to pull the rocker assembly correct? i have a haynes and I read up on how to do that, but could find no mention of the orings or an exploded parts diagram.

yep, the rocker assemblly has to come off. Its reletivelly simple though.

u got to buy a head gastket seal. the O seals come with it. just make sure u use the NEW BOLTS when putting the valve cover back. the old ones and their base are not good because the base is already broken so it willl not keep the cover tight enought onto the O rings for the spark plugs. make sure u use the new bolts and the new bases for the vavle cover.

Yeah, just remember to NOT take the bolts all of the way out. leave them in the rocker arm assembly to keep things in place.

I'm hoping that you are talking about the VALVE COVER gasket set, which would come with new TUBE SEALS and SEALING WASHERS, rather than the O-rings and bolts.

yeah. it's comes with the new bolts. i used to put the old one back and still had oil on the spark plugs. so when iput the new ones i didn't have any oil anymore. just telling him what i learn from experience. lol

no no no....the valve cover gasket set comes with the UPPER tube seals only, the lower tube seals come seperately.

When you buy your valve cover gasket kit make sure everything is in the box. I bought one at Autozone a couple months ago and it did'nt have the upper tube seals(the ones that mold around the bottom of the tubes on the valve cover). It just had the main gasket and 4 O-rings, which I later found out were for the lower part of the tubes. It really threw me off because I had never delt with a Honda F motor.

autozone is cheap...go to napa. any napa i have delt with is friendlier more knowledgable and more helpful. it is worth the few extra dollars in the first place than to have to put shit back together and go back to the parts store. just my opionion. plus around here the autozones n advanced auto parts stores are full of know it all 18-20 year olds.im not saying anything bad about the age bracket being 17 myself. im just saying these kids dont want to hear anything someone else has to say and worst of all give you uneducated answers.

lol while i was going off on my autozone tangent i forgot the big picture...when i went to napa and bought the valve cover gasket set it came with the valve cover gasket, the four bolt grommets and the gaskets for the four spark plug tubes.
