    Engine life

I want to buy some new headers for my 92 ex. I hear that they add horse power by about 15 and improve gas milage. Plus its less weight and less heat in the engine because of the new steal. However I dont think i am getting a new car soon and I have to hold on to the one I have. Will a upgrade like this really cut down of the life of the engine? I thought since it is a beter piece than the stock piece that it would make the car last longer. But with a new header, it puts more stress on the engine thus cutting its life. Or it wont matter and that the engine will only last if i treat it right and oil it every 3000 miles. Right now my car has 71000 miles on it so it pretty new.

71k miles...dude...trade ya . Anyways a header won't take away any engine life because its actually making the engine work less hard to get the exhaust gases out. Bolt ons aren't gonna cost u any engine life. Regular fluid checks, and general maintenance will have the car running tip top shape till your freakin' sick of the car (roughly 350 K miles and beyond)

We've all seen these engines redline for 20+ minutes without oil or coolant...

actually speed fraeak your wrong about the horsepower, actually stock headers are just as good as the top brand headers such as dc,.new headers will increase exhaust flow but wont add any horsepower, maybe 1-2 tops.

can anybody attest to that? because i've always heard there was a bit of mid rpm gain with headers. Never had any tho so i can't speak

from fizzbob, and on real performance setups, it will keep the heat in and aid in exhaust flow and scavenging.....but on your normal setups like ours, it won't do much as far as that goes....like he said, just keep heat away from other parts, but it seriously promotes cracking where the welds are and if they aren't good welds, then bye bye....even some dc headers have cracked......

if its a stock engine your not gonna get a noticable difference, stock headers are great headers.my friend has and h22 in his 91 lx and when he got the dc headers he did not feel a difference, maybe if you have a modified engine but with stock engine stick to stock headers,if your going for looks then do what you like.

Yeah. DC headers for the H22 suck. I found out long after I spend the $250+ for them. I would have been better off sticking with the JDM header.

But yes, I'd just get a header off an EX and call it a day.

yup,i have an ex and people keep telling me to stick with it.honda makes great headers.dc sucks.i only say that because i here so much complaints about them.i saw a test on a sight somwere that tested aftermarket headers(forget what brand) and stock headers, the stock headers were about the same if not more.i will try and get you the site.oh ya both cars were 92 accord ex's.

drive it as hard as you want... just keep up with the maintenance schedule and you wont be able to kill it. if you take care of it from now on, itll rust away before your engine dies

thats really good to hear. Plus thanks for telling me about headers. I thought they would vastly improve my ride but hell you guys know the car better than honda does. Question, how would new spark plugs help? I hear they give you a better top speed since its a better quality spark thus you burn the fuel more efficently.

First of all, Speed your car is still a baby!!!

I too always heard that the stock headers are good enough. More specifically the EX headers. I won't ever shell out the cash to replace the stock headers on my a6.

wrong...save ur money on ignition upgrades until your either building the motor up (all motor) or going forced inducted...but if u insist on buy "high" performance spark plugs i have a set of nology spark plugs that'll be coming out of my engine soon. Keep shouting out ideas on things u want to upgrade tho...if i may suggest a clutch, flywheel, and decent set of tires. Its what i should have started out with honestly and you can't go wrong with any of those parts if you don't yet know what exactly you want to do with the car yet. If u buy headers...what happens of u want a turbo a couple of months down the road? What'd i do is browse the forum and find out what u'd really like to do with ur car and collect things. Its best to have a plan first rather than spend money blindly ya know....even if u can't decide...just let the money pile up man

But I do want to upgrade my ride somehow.... thanks for the info, man this is really good to have some experts tell you what is a good idea and what is bull. Thanks fellas.
