Dilemma...I bought a 91 coupe w/an excellent body. I initially thought it just had a switch problem, but my mechanic just informed me that the cam is wobbling, oil is pouring out of the headgasket(2 quarts in 15 minutes). He said to take off the head, resurface, new headgasket, fix the cam wobblyiness, all the gaskets and seals, timing belt, water pump would be about another 800. I havent ever broken down the engine, but would that be something I could do? Ive done alot. This other engine has 116k miles on it, and the transmission is great. He says besides those problems, the car runs awesome. I am obviously going to have to put it in my garage, and wait till I have time, but is a head gasket something that needs to be done @ a shop? The previous owner had put the new head on, and never drove it... so does it need to be resurfaced? I am really hoping I can do it myself, But lemme know. Thanks

well not really... only 800 more and he could have it running great. And I wanna stay w/the F series for now anyways. But Im towing it back to my house tomorrow morning, and its gonna have to wait until mid-late june to get worked on. By then I hope to have read up enough that I should be able to tackle it myself. Im still not sure about doing the timing belt. May have him do that after I get it finished. Cuz im not sure If that would be worth it(he can do that for 200).

Yeah, but the engine only has 116k miles on it.. its pretty much brand new. The head has no miles on it, and only was running while at the shop for 15 minutes. So I think I have decided to go that route. If i end up finding a running f22 from someone, I might jump on it, and then be able to work on the other one....then swap it back in when im done, and use parts off the other. Dunno, but that sounds like a good idea. I just wish my dad would let me part out my sedan, cuz I could use the engine outta that while I was working on the other one. Oh well.
