    Hard Knock Life

alright, this problem has been brought up once before but no1 has explained why it happens or what it actually is....

i have a f22b1 vtec swap onto an a6 block... and between 2200-2500 rpm's i get a loud knocking sound, almost like rod knock.... my block has 105k on it and the head even less...

im not the only one who has this also,my friends grandfather has 75k on his 95 and my buddy with 175k on his 96 both have this same issue... ive been told it has something to do with the vtec... ive also heard that it could be a bad resistor box or even a bad injector...

so my ??? is what is this, does anybody know? should i worry about it?

    Thanks in advance

could be bad rod, but maybe not? i have a similar set-up with a f22b1 on f22a1 block. do you have the fuel injection air valve hooked, it was exclusive to the f22b1, and supplied extra air to the fuel injectors via a solenoid mounted near the fuel rail? what motor mounts are you using? only other possibility i can think of is the rear motor mount. i dont know if they 94-97 accord had the same vaccum assisted rear motor mount? so when you use the f22b1 ecu it may not have the provision to control that mount, so the knock is the engine moving? that maybe a possibility? is your car auto.

im just trying to take a stab at it, so dont take it to heart

    good luck

um yeah! most engines do.. its called a connecting rod...connects the piston to the crank shaft.

car was auto, converted to manual... as for the fuel injection air valve, i have no idea what that is, i didnt do the swap it was done by the previous owner of the car... i am using stock motor mounts, all seem to be fine...

i looked into this some and it could possibly be the rear mount but the air assist in the mount doesn't matter. In 90-93 all autos had this and the manuals had the mount that is in there. The car has always been 5 speed i didn't convert that one. But to give you some more ideas it could be the differential or axles or clutch chattering (i doubt that though it is pretty new, I just replaced it)and something to do with that back mount. It could be loose or worn out or something. But i suggest changing your tranny fluid and inspecting all that shit in the back there. Because that noise is something to do with the motion since it doesn't do it in neutral or stopped and in higher gears. The tranny could just be smoked from being beaten on. I put a belt on mine and my noise is pretty much cleared up, my timing was a tooth off. Maybe try a new belt??????? even though that one is new.

The post before him said "ROD", as in singular. xaxis360 was just poking fun at that, cause obviously it should've been plural.

Mine has a very light knocking/tapping sound when cold, been there for a long time. Pretty sure its engine, but I don't know. No problems have come up

I also have this prob. My last cb had started it at around 100k. My new cb started doing it when my rebuld hit 30k. My girlfriends 5th gen started doing it at about 110K. My buddies 91 lude did it seince the day he got if (it had 125K).
I tried to figure it out, but i just gave up. If it starts to get louder, which it hasent, Ill try again to locate it.
Oh yeah, all cars listed were 5 spd, exept the 5th gen.

Well now thats interesting... So i guess it just makes the noise and its like "F-it" - your cars seem to be lasting...

But whats weird is that it only makes the noise when hot.. (of course theres the usual cold sound which is prally valves when cold) -- but the loud knocking is only hot...

Starting to think its gotta be a mount or something if all us with the 5 speeds have the same deal goin on..? Besides the one auto...

When the weather breaks ill have to crawl under there and take a look.. wet and snowy out now...

But yes ALL cars have rods!! Even though I'm a "newbie" to this site, I'm not a newbie to cars / honda's --

But thats ok xaxis360 -- we all start somewhere!
