bouncing voltage

i recently put my autometer voltage gauge on my car... i noticed that the car bounces between 12-14 while driving. before i put this on i noticed the gauge cluster would have a flickering effect when i do rev the car.


sometimes the car will start with constant 12 and somes with a constant 14

i know the car should run a constant 14v when the engine is on...but it bounces back to 12v here and there.

any answers?

it was my understanding that it was normal for it to fluxuate(spelling?) between 12 and 14

i thought the voltage moves due to the alternator cranking at different rpms. if it doesn't pose a problem then you should be ok. you're prolly just curious or more so concerned. bump for an answer to jed!

exactly, the alternator is what is responsible for this. i have a voltage display on my Pioneer h/u and it bounces between 12-14 volts.

i think its the alternator.... when its on 12 ill rev it past 3.5 and thats when itll bounce back to 14....

i should replace it but i still have my H monster waiting to be installed too... hmmm....

It will fluctuate. But when there is not too much of an electrical drain, the alternator should put up to 14 volts or so. That is when you know your charging system is working well. They're letting me post with the big boys now.
