Sounds like something dealing with your pressure plate/to bearing. Did this start recently. Have you changed anything around the tranny area?

So you changed your clutch? Did you torque everything down right and such?

its probably related to the shift linkage like you said, if its 1-3-5 its all of the upper gears, the end of the one cable may be jamming against something, rubber clutch line, heater hose, wire harness, etc... if youve done work recently, you probably left something in the way.

yeah it sounds like there is something in the engine bay near the shift linkages on top of the tranny that is hindering the full movement. like what mike mentioned make sure you don't have any foreign object in or around the linkages. most likely it's a rubber hose from your description of being "springish".

i'd check the C-clip(s) that hold the shift cables in place on the shifter linkage assembly under the center console; its possible it may have popped out of place causing your shift cables to react this way.

like said above check the cables... Same thing happen to my car... it just got worse and worse. Turns out I broke the shifter cable. I guess one too many powershifts will do that. Now I shift slow while racing unless its something fast or I'm at the track.

hopefully it is the linkage, cause when my 5th gear went out it took 3rd with it.

after inspecting the cables, they seemed fine, it was weird.
