Cant get into reverse!!! NEED HELP ASAP!!!!

alright guys....I've actually been puttin up with this for quite a while now. Well, I grinded 3rd one day only to find that I could not get into reverse afterwards while parking. The shifter feels as if its blocked off from reverse, and i could not even get the tranny arms into reverse either Anyone know what it could be? What parts would be needed? How do the gears shift over to reverse? thanks for any help peeps

This is a waaaaaaay longshot, and not likely to work in your situation if something is actually broken, but it's nearly 3 a.m. so why not?

Every Honda manual tranny I ever had always went into reverse much easier by first going into 4th first and then reverse.

Sort of like an upside-down U-pattern: 4th-to-reverse in "one motion."

Yep as decked mentioned try poppin it in 4th if not 1st then go to reverse to see if it goes in. If it doesnt go in and as you said the shift arms wouldnt budge you could have busted synchros. But you know what your fluid level is sittin at?

hold the shifter into R and SLOWLY, barely start to let the clutch out, see if it pops in once you get the gears moving..

yeah...try doing what was mentioned....DO NOT FORCE IT into reverse...baby it!!!

putting it into one of the gears first...helps loosen up the gears before going into Reverse!

I had this problem when I first got my car man.You might have a dragging clutch. With most clutches the release interval is about 4 to 5 seconds. do this man. start your car and let it run. Let it get up to its normal operating temperature. With the engine idling and the tranny in nuetral, press the clutch pedal to the floor. Hold it for 10 seconds. Then shift it into reverse. That 10 seconds should have been enough time for the clutch to come to a complete stop, allowing a shift into reverse without gear clashing/grinding. If it grinds it means that your clutch is dragging. Not releasing completely. That might mean a bent disc, or rusted tranny input shaft. just a guess.

If none of those work, you might have bent the shift fork or bent/misaligned the shift holder. R doesnt run off of a synchro; it works by moving an idler gear in between the two other gears(on the 5th gear synchro ring and main shaft).

dragging clutch can be fixed by adjusting the pedal, or fixing whats wrong with the hydraulics (bad master cylinder possibly)

Best case scenerio. I was speaking from my own experience. Mine happened to be a worst case scenerio. However the release system is operated by hydro pressure. So you are also right.

Of course we completely overlooked the tranny itself.

You say all gears go in fine right but reverse....You sure nothing might be snaggin the linkage in the engine bay if not shift linkage bent a lil if not could be something internal.
