Brake drums and calipers are all rusty. Replace?

Just went out and out of curiosity looked at my brake drums and calipers. The drums have rust that I easily picked off of the outermost circumfrence, like, right at the edge, and the calipers look like shit.

Also, when I'm driving and I hit the brakes, there's a bump that clicks and such through the brake pedal and the steering wheel, I can feel it. The brakes work and all, though.

How hard is it to install new brake drums and calipers? And how expensive?

that should be very ez. Drums after you remove the 4 lug nuts and release e brake should just come out and you can just replace. front disc after you remove 4 lug nuts and wheel you need to remove like 5 bolts, 2 from caliper body (queez the pads against rotors)and 2 more from caliper bracket( which holds caliper body in place) and brake line ( 1 bolt).when you look at em you'll see exacly what am talking about.
now price i got my drums from ebay 35 pair shipped and calipers from autozone like 50 a piece after you return core(your old caliper).
so maybe 150 and shouldnt take you more than 3 hours even if its your first time.

Not my fault my dick only fits magnums.
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and FLY?

If it works pointless to spend money on it. STuff eventually rusts so you replace it its gonna rust again. Get you some fine grit sandpaper and sand down the exterior of the rear drum should take off some of that rust. As for the caliper if It works dont mess with it. Unless you plan on upgrading the complete system.

got any pics? the rusted drums shouldn't be of any problem cuz thats just the cover for the brake shoes inside. if you want to change them, don't forget a rubber mallet (its a stress reliever). for the front are the calipers rusted or just the brake rotor where the pads don't touch (towards the hub)??

When you say caliper, do you mean a part on the front, or back? Because if you mean back, you are wrong because there is not a caliper in the back if you have drum brakes in the back.

This is all in the front.

Everything works perfectly fine. When I say calipers I mean the metal doohickey that's at about 11 o'clock on the brake drum/disc thinger.

Ok, so your Rotor is rusty. If it is rusty on the surface that the brake pads touch, drive the car for a bit and see if it is still rusty. My rotors gather surface rust very quickly, like whenever I was my car, or drive in the rain. If you are talking about the outside, well they all rust, it is a part that is always exposed to the elements. The calipers are probably just stained from brake dust, they have been exposed anywhere from 13-16 years to the brake dust constantly.

Rust on the exterior parts are okay.

Nobody has replied about your bump and clicks. Check your front disc rotor to make sure it is not warped or cracked. Check your rear drum to make sure it is not cracked or out-of-round.
