I been noticing a possible problem with my car. I have taken notice when I have been driving that the temperature gauge slowly drops back to the cold range off the scale. This occurs when I am coasting or driving over 45. I think that my theromostat is bad. I need help!

Overcooling?

Well, think of the theory of the cooling system. It's only efficient when there's air passing by the radiator. The quicker you go, the more air passes by the radiator and the motor, the cooler the engine gets. The stock F22a is not a hot motor. It's completely alluminum and has a massive radiator. It's ability to cool is awesome (in its stock form). So this cooling when the car is moving is normal.
When the weather gets a little warmer, you'll notice that your engine won't cool as efficiently and the temp won't drop as much when you're moving.

It sounds like you have a thermostat problem. Just go ahead and replace the thermostat and do a coolant flush. I also had a problem like this back a few months ago that you can read here.

So which is it?
several folks on this thread say change the t-stat.
a couple others say it's normal to cool that much.
Which is the right answer?
I have 91EX. I had a stock radiator (the plastic kind) before and never noticed the "overcooling" (which may have been occuring, but I never noticed it).
Then my engine bay got stripped by chopshop thieves and I replaced the radiator with an aftermarket metal radiator. Since then I happened to notice that on idle, my temp is about a quarter to one third of the way up on the guage, but at cruising speed the temp guage drops all the way down to the Cold position. I want to know if this is normal too, or is it gonna cause me problems and should I change my T-stat?

.
From your description I don't think it is "over cooling". Most likely the temp sensor, thermostat or the gage.
If it is running cold all the time then you will have driveability issues as it will always be running rich and mileage will suffer and emissions will be high.Take that freek show to the park, maybe the squirrels will care.

1. This thread is from 2004.
2. A stuck open thermostat can cause the gauge to go back toward cold. The tstat opens and closes depending on temp.
3. A sensor would immediately shoot to Hot or cold depending on which side its open on.
4. A low coolant level can make the gauge move around.
