Just wondering if anyone has tried to fiberglass rotted out sections using a foam form carved out. I was thinking it might make it a lot easier for larger more techical sections that have been rusted out. I did it without any support or anything on the rear quarter panel and it was hard to keep it in place and the in the general shape I wanted. On the other side I was thinking of cutting out a foam form and putting it in the spot thats missing, then the fiberglass has something to stick/support onto, and when your done you can just tear the foam out. Im sure people have done this before, and if you have what type of foam did you used, something easy to cut/work with. I was thinking that pink stuff used for housing?

Well funny you should mention that ..
Being from Hawaii as most know .. I fiberglassed surfboards quite a bit .. annnnnd ..
surboards are made of foam .. albeit a high density foam .. nonetheless, foam.
Tearing foam offa glass that has already cured .. could ruin alotta hard work.
And using insulated foam .. (that pink stuff) is not gonna fair any better ..
One thing that glass wont stick to .. is wax paper .. we would use it in making fins
and setting up a glass job that required something to be *molded* .. once the glass cured
the wax paper would simply be removed, leaving a product that only needed to be
finished off a bit more by laying a few more layers of glass .. but by then, we had our mold
and could work alot easier til we got what we wanted ...
You may wanna try that .. but perhaps a few layers of wax paper, depending on the size
of the job for your intentions .. could make it more stable.
G'luck !!!

Thanks man! You probably just saved me a lot of hassle!, I would be pissed if I did all the work and tried to get the foam out and ruin the fiberglass. Shoot someone should do a DIY on this. Maybe I will? Im no pro but I'll see how everything pans out.Sold to:tanNn2koo,9tAkord,ThrakBarts,nahmo,andrizzle,or angerOriginally posted by deevergote..It's not cheap to build a fast CB7, especially NA. Today after class I will, I just need to pick up some more resin. I already did one side the hard way, I'll do the back quarter panel near the bottom of the rear door. I might also have to do the fender wall, I think it all might be rotted, not sure if there is enough metal to bondo. I might just cut it out and fiberglass it to if the bottom part goes well.Sold to:tanNn2koo,9tAkord,ThrakBarts,nahmo,andrizzle,or angerOriginally posted by deevergote..It's not cheap to build a fast CB7, especially NA.
