    Engine Locked Up?

I believe that my engine my be locked up, because when I turn the key the starter is turning over but the engine is not. So I removed the oil cape off of the valve cover gasket and had someone turn the key. None of the valves or anything are moving inside. Could this mean its locked up? What are some of the symptoms? If not then what could it be? Ignision maybe?

Check your battery voltage and your starter?

sounds like a broken timing belt...if you say the valvetrain didn't move, but the bottom ends does. remove the timmg belt cover and look at the timing belt. try staring it again with the timing belt cover off and see if it moves. later.

Yep! Its busted. Thats good news, so my engine is not locked up. Now I just got to figure out how to replace it.

Sorry, but, no, its not good news.
If the motor is running while the timing belt break, well, it throws your timing off. Since most, if not all, Honda engines are interference engines you have valves flying all over the place. This is not desireable. Some say depending on the RPMs your engine was at, at the time of breakage, you may not need headwork. I have yet to see this. Every break I have heard of has been bad. Like bent or broken valves bad.

and trying to start the car after the fact doesnt help either! you probably need some new valves

Same thing happened to me. If you replace your timing belt and crank it, listen to the sound. If it is stuttering and cranking like a cold morning, you are in luck. If it is a smooth whine with no compression sound, time for an h22 swap!!

What's easier than that dang upper timing cover because of the short screw being such a pain to remove and install, remove the distributor cap and check for rotor rotation while spinning crank.

Also, you found your timing belt is broke, well that does NOT mean your engine is fine. Our motors are interference and you may have bent a valve or valves. You're still not in the clear.

Timing belts should be changed with water pumps everytime....every 100,000 miles. Keep up on your maintenance.
