Car turns over but has no spark

Ok, today i was driving, and the car was running fine. i was going down this hill to go get something to eat, as i hit the bottom of the hill i placed my foot on the gas to maintain my speed, and when i did this it booged i lett off and the engine felt as if though it wasnt even running. Then it just died out... i Had it towed home, and saw that there was no spark...
Replaced the coil
It has power to the coil, 12 volts, it just wont spark,
Fuel pump is fine i here it whine when i turn the key on....
Dont know what it is, any suggestion???

you still have spark so it might be your ignitor (ignition module)

Hate to ask this but is the cam turning? Maybe broken timing belt? If it is turning it is probably the igniter. My igniter went outjust like that. I took one from a distributer that had a bad TDC sensor and put it in and it has run fine since.

Thanks for all the responses! we checked shop key one more time and a haynes manual and found that we overlooked the igniter! replaced it with one from my A6 distributor, cranked up on the first try!!! thanks guy for all your help!!!!
