    rear end wobble problem

ok so ive got a problem with the rear suspension of my car... it will wobble from side to side and gets worst with speed... it had done this before... and i had taken it to a shopp to check the alignment and they said it was the tires... so they replaced the tires and the wobble went away i believe... but i dont know if they had adjusted anything... well just recently i had rotated my tires and the wobbling is back... so my questoin is is it really my tires or is something in the back end of my suspension sound like the coulprit? ever since i replaced my shocks and springs two years ago i always hear a clunking in the back end when i hit a bump or hole... it really seemed like the shocks were too tall for the springs... i have already checked to see if the tops or the shocks are hitting above the housing but they arent... this wobbling is really making it dangerous to drive though... im starting to think that my tires are screwed up and out of balance so they are throwing the car off balance... anyways if i could just get some imput on this... i tried searching but didnt really come up with anything... but its really starting to drive me nuts cause it seems to get worse everyday... anyways thanks to whoever might have an idea on what it is... thanks

I'd first try to put on a set of OEM wheels or something similar that are balanced and see if the problem is still there.

    ...adjust accordingly

It could be your tires. Get that checked out first. Then I would jack the rear end up and check every nut and bolt to see if it's loose. Also, do you have discs or drums in the rear? if discs, check the rotors. they could be warped. also, I had the same problem. turned out that it was the little guard plate thing behind the rotor...It was bent out of shape, and was hitting the rim. If all those things dont work, take the axle nut off and inspect the hub and bearing. Good luck!

quakerjoe I had the same problem.. it was the shocks. Everything was fine till i dropped the car. After a few months it got bad, at the time i was running my 17'' and that did not help matters. After putting my stock steelies back on helped. But anyways yeah its the damn shocks.. Tell me this is the car fine on a smooth road ? I get on the highway and its kinda trashed here in Oklahoma city but the ass end feel like its about to pass my front end. Only on bumpy roads mind you.. Guess its like my stock shocks cant keep the rebound under control. Hope this helps.

i think this might be it... cause i have kyb gr-2's on there and they are just a stock replacement... but when i went to put the eibach springs on the springs seemed way way too short for the shock... i was thinking about trying some different shocks... also i didnt cut the bump stop... cause the papers that came with the springs said nothing about cutting them... so i was afraid it was those... but im not really sure... i think its the struts like you said... smooth on a smooth road... hell on a rough road...

ok... so earlier today i tightened up the upper ball joint... apperantly my friend didnt tighten it enough when we replaced them last weekend... anyways it has some what stop the problem... the ass end doesnt just swing uncontrolablly now... every once in a while it will feel like it wants to do that crap but it has calmed down alot... ( but i will say i just replaced all my front end ball joints last weekend... but this was happening prior to last weekend... adn the upper ball joint bushings seemed fine... but thats just me... anyways it seems like its fixed for now... i might try holding off on buying replacement shocks for the rear so i can get my motor done...) thanks to all who responded

What springs are you on, Sportlines? Stock shocks are not strong enough for them. I guarantee if you go to a quality adjustible shock your problem will go away. Your car is pretty dangerous right now.

i guess im going to go with some koni's ... my only question is is it worth it to go with the yellows? or are the reds just as good you just cant adjust them as easily?

alright... so i finally had figured out what the problem was on my car... the eccentric bolt bracket apperantly had been torqued off by some amazing retard at NTB... the guy told me that the bolt had been spinning in the bushing... what he neglected to tell me is that it shouldnt turn at all... i think that its retarded that they would do something like that... they could have at least told me exactly what had happened... when i got under there to rebuild the suspension (replace the bushings) thats when i noticed that the eccentric bolt bracket was missing... so i had to buy an entire rear suspension just to get the rear crossmember... just so i could have that bracket on there... without that bracket the toe adjusting arm (the front of the two rear lower control arms) was free to play which caused my rear end to sway and wobble... ill try and get some pictures to show you all what i am talking about...
