    How important is it to....

...get the inner cv joint parts back in the exact same place they came from?

In the haynes manual it has you make marks on everything like outer race, tripot bearings, and axleshaft. Is there a real need to do this or not?

Thanks guys. The reason I ask is because it is really slowing my progress down.

Very important, that's why they mention it in the factory manual as well.

Yes, I am doing an overhaul. Replacing grease, boots, and clamps/rings.

The reason it was taking long is because I have to mark the parts, but also clean them. But had to make sure I didnt clean the mark off. Its a pain. They have you mark the teeth on the axle to the exact teeth on the tripot. I dont see how this particular marking is necessary. I can understand getting the same bearings on the same tripot stem and in the same way on the outer race, but to get the exact teeth lined up from axle to the tripot seems a bit crazy.

Anywho...parts soaked overnight...getting ready to go back and let them dry out so I can get this thing back together.

        Thanks guys.

OK....got the axle rebuilt. Trying to put it back in now. What is the trick of getting the dang thing back into the intermediate shaft? I cant get it to go in at all. Even tried a little grease on the teeth but nothing. Im really stuck here as this is our only vehicle and I have work in the morning and my son has school.

          PLEASE help ASAP!

          Thanks.
