    radiator problem.

hmm.. my friend's accord is having problem. we fill this up completely with coolant because we believe water is bad for our engine.. why? water and metal dont mix.. they create rust.. notice ur brake plate turn brown when u dont drive it for a whole day? ... so. we avoid putting water. even tho people say it's okay but we choose this so let's not talk bout that part now. the radiator is full. but.. the car still overheat afta driving it for longer than 30 mins. the worse part is we all believe it was the thermostat.. but it been replace not too long ago. includin the waterpump. either of those hose throw any cooolant thru.. the bottom nor the top. but when the thermostat gets hot.. it open up to let some coolant in or out.. (top part). i noticed the tube get flat skinny when the thermostat open. i grab on the tube, i feel small amount of coolant rushin out and getting really hot but when i look at the temperature it's on normal. but it doesnt look normal. after driving it for an hour the engine begins to heat.. not getting enough coolant to keep it cool down. what could this be? both tube are flat like there no coolant in it... i did open the thermostat to take out air from the engine. they flow nicely. but it seem to be SPITTIN the coolant out then pouring out. and i look under the car cuz i was reving the engine to heat up and noticed not one drop of coolant spill on the floor.

    what could be the problem?

    1. puttin all coolant is ok, but cost a little more $$; this is what i do, add a whole bottle of concentrated coolant then fillup with the rest, water. Now, its bad if you dont add any coolant and just run water, thats when things starts to rust. But if you mix it whit coolant, be ok.

    2. If you cant find the heatting problem, start saving up for new motor, i had my prelude wich would heat up, did all i can, change parts, sensors etc, but it still fuk.....find out, the motor was a bad motor..

    3. is the engine burning up the coolant?? is the coolant mix in the motor oil, is the compression leaving into the water passage, basically, is the head gasket leakin?

    4. its not normal for the water to be gushing out the radiator cap onces its hot!.

it's not spittin out from the radiator cap.. it's spittin out from the thermostat.

sounds like teh coolant is being clocked or blocked somehere along the coolants paths. did you install the thermostat backwards? sorry justa thought.

Pressure testing it is the best way to go. Check how you install the t-stat. Both hoses should be firm and about same temp when the t-stat is open. Your supposed to run a 50/50 mix there is a reason for this. The boiling point of water and coolant mixed is a lot higher than just coolant itself. The "rust" part you describe is if you use water from the tap. If you use bottled water like ozarka and that type of water it wont cause rust. But if its "spittin" from the t-stat look for punctured hoses around that area or tighten down the bolts tighter. Did you put the gasket or silicone whatever was supposed to be there to seal it up?

Nail, I think the "spittin" part hes referring to is when he bled the coolant. Then again I have no f'kin clue... Try a new coolant temp sensor, it might do it, it might not, but usually if the water gets that hot, you can normally hear it boil (at least in all my cases).

Does the engine cool down some when you turn the heater on? Do your fans work? Does it heat up while moving, or only at an idle speed? Good luck man..

Oh lol I dunno either. I dont understand some of the terminology used. I thought usually if something was spittin it was leakin lol dunno.

You've decided to re-engineer your cooling system, and now you come here surprised it doesn't work?

well.. i'm not saying it's spitting from the bleeder.. i open it and it spit out yeah. its not flowing.. i open to check if there was any air.. no air .. so i close it back tight. and when the thermostat open u feel the spittin inside the hose.. when u sqeeze the hose u can feel the spitting coolant like the engine is spittin the coolant out. i'm thinkin it's clog in too. thinkin getting a radiator flush and try again. i post this thread cuz i wanna make sure dun want him buyin shit and it doesnt work out ya kno. but i havent heard from him lately so i guess he got it fix or wuteva. but both of the hose is flat. so it has to be clogged.. i open the butterfly to take out all the coolant in and fill it up with coolant and it still did the samething. maybe it's really dirty inside so i'ma have him take the radiator out and use a water hose and blow anything outta it clean just to be sure.

Because you're misinformed about that, and therefore likely misinformed about the rest as well, even though 100% anti-freeze isn't a problem here per se.

$15 will get you a book at the auto parts store and tell you how to do it correctly.
