    jumping rpms?

o.k. everyone i am stumped on this one. when i drive my car its usually ok but every once in a while when i'm at about 5-10% throttle my ingnition will jump to 5-6.5k rpm's. i dont have any idea of what it would be unless it has to do with the tps sensor. do you guys think its the ecu becouse im stumped. i also had a msd digital 6 plus but i disabled it to see if it was the cause but it remained the same. please help if you can becouse this is driving me nuts.

What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

im pretty sure its the ecu messing everthing up becouse on my apexi vtec controller the rpms dont jump around but the tach in the clustel does. my car is a 5 speed with a sohc vtec motor with the non vtec ecu. the car just losses power becouse the ingnition is sparking per the tach but the vtec controller tells what the motors really turning so i think my ecu is screwed. i just got the headers for the h22 so im not to worried about this i just dont want to get stranded on my way to work, thats the last thing i need with this hobby is no money.

i've been experiencing the same problem, and from what i've found it has something to do with the ignitor... i just haven't gotten around to it yet

the motor itself is not reving up but falling on its face. i think im going t throw the p28 in and see if its still doing it. when it does it if i punch the gas or just give it more it stops doing it.

Don't quote me on this... buy my uncle experienced similar probs on his 97 V6 Accord sedan. He don't have any mods. If I'm remembering right, he said the tachometer would work fine when the engine was cold, but when it warmed up, the tach needle would drop...maybe jump around occassionally. This is the part I'm shady on but will try best to remember...maybe it'll help...after a while it thru a code...he checked it out and it had something to do with the auto trans I believe. He did research (he's airplane mechanic) & found out how system works in terms of wiring...found out that somehow the ignition coil, tachometer, & trans are interlinked somehow and he narrowed prob down to a failing ignition coil or bad wiring between ignition & trans wiring I think. So he checked for continuity in ECU between these two and it was fine...so he leaned toward replacing ignition coil.

If you can make sense of this, coo but I can talk to him again about it and clear things up. It made sense when I heard about it a while back...but just can't remember it all clearly now...hope it helps somewhat

I cant really understand what you are saying the problem is... but...

I had a problem where my car would work fine all the time under3.5-4k After it got past that point, and I was still on the throttle, the engine would bog down, and feel like it was miss-firing, and the tach would jump around. First I replaced the ignition coil, and it wasnt it, so I got a new distributor, and it solved the problem.

well i found out what happens if you let it go too long, my car died on me a few days ago, so i had to get the car towed in, i told the mechanic right away to just replace the ignitor. it wasn't so bad at $150 for parts and labor. and since babying it for the first day, i had the balls to run the car hard... and no problems, no jumping tach, no more inconsistent idle, and no car breaking down in the middle of rush hour traffic

sounds like a lot of Accords are experiencing really screwed up mechanical gremlins lately....mine is rather odd itself, the f22 must be acting out because it knows that it's time in my car is growing shorter by the day - wait, shouldn't it be BEHAVING? oh well, anyhow, I'm not sure what to tell you, I say try the p28 out, and get back to us.

i have the p28 in right now so its most likely the ignitor. im doing the h22 swap this week(about time) so im not to worried about it unless it breaks down befor i get to the garage, which will most likely happin giving my record on luck lately but soon i will be running better and faster. thanks for your help everyone
