    knocking noise when cold

it was about 15 degrees when i came back into town last night. anyways, i was going home and there were minor bumps in the road and as id go over them, id hear a knocking sound coming from around/inside the drivers side fender. i drove my car just now (its about 50 degrees) and i didnt hear anything. ive heard the sound once before and was told that it may be the brakes or something along those lines. has anyone had this problem before and know what it could be? im pretty sure its common for cars to make random noises when its freezing outside but i just want know what that was.

Sway bar bushing but you said it went away when it got a lil warmer? I would give a look around the suspension area and see if you got any ripped boots and such.
