    Shift linkage+ABS/axle seal questions

    1. I have ABS and I have to change the cotter pin on my shift linkage. h22sparkle broke the old one off and left the hole plugged. Can I remove the ABS module temporarily (w/o disconnecting it) to get room to drill out the old linkage?

    2. My tranny is leaking badly from the right axle. I'll check the Haynes when I get home but does the tranny have to be disassembled to change the axle seal? What would cause a leak around the CV joint?

    1. the abs is close, but definately not in the way of the linkage cotter pins. just pull the intake off and youll see it right there in front of you. do NOT attempt to pull that abs shit out, theres like 2398 brake lines running to it.

    2. id be surprised if it had to be disassembled, should only need the axle pulled out of it. is the axle seated all teh way in? follow the haynes for replacing the seal, and you shoudl be ok... nothing really else in the area to leak oil on the axle. not putting the axle in carefully, the splined end may have jammed into the seal and tore it up a bit

      1. You shouldnt need to move the ABS to put in a cotter pin for the shift linkage just move the intake out of the way you should have plenty of room.

      2. No just pull off the axle get a pick like deal thing and work it out then just press the new one. Make sure it sits flush.

dammit mike beat me to it what i get for lving a window open for 20 min.

There's room to maneuver but not enough to drill the remnants of the old cotter pin out. sparkle twisted and pinched the old one and left the remnants in the hole, which is why I have to drill it out...I'm trying to come up with a way to hold the linkage in place without the cotter pins, but I'm drawing a blank. I might use a kebab skewer...

You dont have any think pieces of metal you can use to kinda force it out the other side? It cant be that bad but then it can.

I'll have to see when I get home. If the linkage is strong enough in the tranny to withstand being banged by a hammer I should be OK.

You sure its just not a lil piece of debris like dirt or something that accidentally might have fallen in the hole you never know.
