    Normal Coolant Temp

    Hi everyone.

Just a quick question, I used the search, but all I found was 'overheating' issues, but...

What is the normal temperature for the engine, under normal conditions.

I added an aftermarket temp. gauge since my project's car (or Legacy Accord says Nightmare car), temp. gauge doesn't work. The Rad fans kicked on and everything after passing 220F. This is while the car was holding still at idle after doing a couple of fun runs up and down the street to get the temp gauge up.

    Thanks,

    Kev

thats common, should run between 200-220, i've read oil is at its best when within those operating temps....

180 is when your thermostat fully opens so 20-40 more degrees should be fine....BUT if its start to hit at 250 and up(like what mines were doing due to a crimp in the upper coolant hose), then fix the problem

        Cool thanks.

When driving (the limited round the street driving for testing purposes), the car is around 180 - 190, and then, if I let it sit in the driveway, iding, it will jump to 240, and then the fans turn on, and it does down to about 200 or so.

What I have been doing is just driving it around the block once or twice after using it to get it to 180 - 170 before shutting off the car.
