CEL code 41 primary o2 sensor heater

found out what my engine CEL 4 longs blinks and 1 short one.. its a primary o2 sensor heater...

wtf.. is this just the o2 sensor .. or is there a heater that heats up the o2 sensor prior to the engine heating up so it can read a/f ratio's correctly..

if so can i buy one of these ''heaters'' at autozone

lmk if this is a cha ching

    anybody ever get this CEL?..

need a new O2 sensor, get an NTK, the bosch from auto zone made my car run a little too rich, and then throw codes. Also denso is fucked
    sparkplugs.com not a bad deal
    dirty accord->

my car was throwing this CEL when I bought it....its not the sensor thats f-ed, just the little element heater on it that gets the a/f right when its below 30 outside. I pulled 02 sensor off and checked the wires and cleaned it...put it back in, reset the ecu, and it hasn't thrown a code for two months....and its gotten a lot colder since then, so I think it's working ok.

I'd try that before replacing the 02 sensor, as far as I know, you can't replace just the element, you gotta do the whole sensor. And the other guy is right, the bosch sensor has a bad rep. If you wanna play it safe, just buy an OEM one. I did that on my last accord and it never had a problem.

mine threw a cel this morning it was like 2 degree's out. Would the cold weather cause it to do that and run rich cause it smelled horrible after the light came on. I shut the car off and started it again and it went away and so did the smell.

I guess........when mine did it, it was still 60-70 f outside, so I don't think it affected the mixture very much......but for the first ten minutes or so of the engine being on, I could imagine it affecting the ratio pretty strongly when its that cold out. You should really double check the CEL tho to make sure its a 41....I say this based on the understanding that you only saw the CEL on the dash, and you didnt jumper it to find out the specific code.

your not really supposed to clean an oxygen sensor
"Never use cleaning solvents of any kind on the O2 sensor, solvents can permanently contaminate the sensor element."

and NTK is OEM for Honda, but the NTK box is about $200 cheaper then the Honda box

very good point man, I should've mentioned that, I didnt use a solvent of any sort, just used an air tool on the end of a compressor, and I didn't really focus on the sensor apparatus itself, but the unit as a whole. The o2 seems to be functioning correctly now, so I assume that was sufficient.

and I bought my oem sensor for my last car used off ebay for like 40 bucks, so I've never bought an NTK, good to know

i did jumper the ECU how else would i have pulled a 41 code.. the CEL doesnt blink unless you jumper it..

i think it is somehow related to the sensor.. but im not sure how it went out so fast. i think i replaced my o2 sensor a few months ago .

you misunderstood, i was talking to the either guy "pig pen" on this thread who asked a question. I know you pulled a code.

mine quit doing it today so i couldn't get a CEL code off of it. I guessing it had something to do with the o2 though.
