    Larger Oil filter

When i first got my accord, there was a much bigger oil filter on than the listed one in the stores (Stock listed Fram 3593a i think, or something like that; prety small oil filter).

Anyways, anyone know of another application filter that fits on ours? I guess i could just get the thread and the biggest seal diameter and go check it out. But it would be nice to get a higher capacity filter that lasts longer for the increased straight my high revving and turbo put on the oil system.

    Any thoughts?

I had looked, too, some time ago, but I ended up sticking with a stock WIX/NAPA Gold.

Personally, it sounds like you care about maintenance on this engine, so I bet you'll be changing the oil and filter long before its even significantly restricted.

Hey! This might help, at least food for thought.

The WIX/NAPA Gold 1344 is nearly an inch longer than the 1334, with the same filtration specs. From the pictures, it looks like it has the new spiral core and the anti-drainback valve at the base, just like the 1334. I think the 1344 has been upgraded since last I had checked, cause IIRC it didn't filter as good as the 1334 and had the ADBV on the bottom.
Hmm...maybe I'll switch to the 1344 and use it twice.

hell, the car probably had the wrong filter or something on it.. the 3593 is the proper filter for pretty much every honda except a lot of the newer ones with the smaller filters.. they are pretty much the exact size as the ones you would buy from honda... and honestly, i dont see how a larger filter would help really.. just stick with the proper size..

S2000, eh? I'll have to look into it.

Staying alongthe WIX/NAPA route, a 1356 has better filtration than the 1334 and 1344, which I'd be more concerned with than capacity. And its similar capacity to the 1334 and otherwise identical. In fact, I'm going to start using the 1356 from now on. I didn't know about that filter, so thanks mtnickel for making me look and rethink all this.

well i forgot to check the results of this thread after i started it.

Anyways, the reason for wanting a bigger filter is to ensure it lasts the length of the oil change and possibly longer for extended life synthetic oil (changes can go up to intervals of 10000miles! with the right oil and engine...read it in the oil bible or something...big long tech article).

ANyways, back to the point...bottom line: smaller filters will clog up faster, thus the bypass valve will open and you'll run without filtration for any length of time...if you drive a little agressively and create more particle, you could then be wearing your engine more.

bigger will hold more particle and more oil (bigger oil capacity has it's benefits too, same reason high performance engines go to big high capacity pans).

Anyways, just wondering...thanks for the links guys.

What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

But as is the case for the Wix/Napa Golds/and a couple others...the larger filters also filter less smaller particals. That's why I chose the 1356. Good size, great filtration. And I'll be using it for two changes, because I'm cheap and it can handle it easily.

You could do those UOAs, too. Supposed to tell you how much life is left and how far you can go.
But I think you'll be fine with whatever you do, since you're taking the time to fingure out what's best.

I am looking into purchasing an Amsoil filter next since they are pretty good as I have heard also.
