Wont go into 2nd

i know on my car, when your going above 10mph or something like that, it will lock you out of 1st gear for safety. but recently when im going anywhere from 10-30 and i try to downshift into 2nd, it wont let me. if i keep applying pressure trying to get it into 2nd... eventually when i come to a stop, it then slides into gear effortlessly. ive never had this problem before. is it something else, or am i now having a problem with a safety when going into 2nd???

and of course, what can i do to fix this?

First, check your hydraulic fluid and make sure its not low. If thats not it, your prob gonna need to look at the tranny.

wouldnt the fluid level affect all shifts? i can shift 1-5 ok, and i can downshift as well, except into 2nd.

Sounds like your syncors are on the way out. Try double clutching your downshifts.

i had a problem like that in my 74 datsuno pick up your forks on your transmissino may be bent on your second gear i never made an effort to fix it because i only had a 4 gear transmission and i could still drive around but eventualy my transmission went out so i woulk either take apart your tranny if you know how or get ready to buy a new one and install it. good luck
