    Speedometer problem

Well it seems a few people have my problem on this board, but i need your opinion.

Well first off, i have aftermarket reverse gauges, but i don't think there sticking or anything.
It works fine until you hit 40mph, then it gets stuck, then will jump when you hit around 50 or 60, and keep on getting stuck and jumping from there to 100ish.

Well from stories on here, it sounds like people are suggesting its the speed sensor...and honda has one in for me waiting, but one of my friends who work there say 90% of the time the needle sticking problem has to do with the cluster itself...

What do you guys think i should do?

    Re: Speedometer problem

if u have reverse indo gauges i am pretty sure its that, that is rubbin on the needle. i had indo's on mine and it did the same thing. try 2 put some glue on the inner part where the needle is by or u can just remove it and c what happens. if it still does it then it might be something wrong but i am almost 99.9% sure that its the indo.

There is a way to test and see if it's the speed sensor. You bend a paper clip in a tight "U" shape. Find a blue connector under the carpet below the glove box. Stick the paper clip in each of the two slots, then turn the key to on. The "S" light in the instrument will flash some codes. I think it's one long (10) blink and then seven short (7, duh) blinks respresenting 17.

If you don't want to do all that (even though it only takes a couple minutes) pay attention to the "S" light while you're driving, if it's your speed sensor the "S" light will start blinking. My speed sensor is fucked up and my light blinks constantly, and this isn't something you could possibly miss so I doubt if it was ever blinking. Besides, it sounds like it would be MUCH more likely that it's the gauges.

if i took off my aftermarket guages, you think i'd still have a problem? cause if its fine then, then i'll gladly take them off and ride stock.

Yeah.. If it was your speed sensor, the CEL would come on, the 'S' would start flashing and more or less, the needle won't move... From your description, your needle is somehow "pressed" against the gauge at certain points...

Follow suit on what the other guys suggested and you should be fine...

same thing happens w/ my cb7. i have white faced indiglos (not reverse, just indiglo). i don't get the speed sensor maintenance light or anything either. after reading this thread, now i think it could be the gauge panel. but this problem didn't occur for the first few months that the gauges were on. why all of a sudden?

yeah, it's kinda hard to believe that it's the gauge panel that causes the needle to stick. it looks to me like that needle has enough clearance. i wonder why the tach needle doesn't stick.

I used small amounts of double faced tape on my indiglos; ionno about using glue... seems a little harsh especially if you might want to take them of down the line. I say remove the indiglos for a short while; if it is still jumping then you know it's the speedo cable.
