    h22a4 into lude problems

I've had this thing installed for sometime now. It was running a "p13" when i first got it, but was having some issues with how it ran and so someone i know took it to his shop and they tried to tinker with it. They told me that it wasn't a p13 but that is a p28 and just chipped to p13 specs..i was like..hmm that sucks. So the guy tells me that he'll chip it and make it run better when i fix my exhaust leak...which was very small just past my stupid egay header.

on the way home that night i notice that it is a little bit quicker but still lacked the power that i felt on a similar 92 h23 lude that i fixed for a person. Guy said he'd fix it, but never did..jerk. I drove it as was for probably 5 or 6 months. it got ok gas millage but was grumpy. it was getting about 26-28 using 93 octane.

as was when cold it had a hard time getting up in rpm's. Getting to 4k took less time in my f22a4. But once it got their it sorta took off and vtec kinda hit. Once it warmed up all the way then it wanted to rev a little bit better but vtec was more noticable. ok, so that's the story...

a couple of months ago i was driving home and the crank pulley came loose and so both my ac and ps belts came off...the timing belt and balance belt were in the process of following suite. I got it home and parked it. Figured i could finally order a h22a4 pulley instead of the h23 that i was running on. I also took the front end off and tried to straigten the front end up from a apparent rear ending the car did to some one before i ever got it. (it's still not right, but it looks better...i repeat better but not good) I got married and when we came back i needed to get the prelude finished so that i could use it for a work car. I didn't want to use the 03 accord. i get the prelude back to gether and it runs terrible! way worse than before. It stalled all the time. It was getting terrible gas milage. Ran terrible rich. Back fired all the time no matter were the new dizzy was. And eventually when it warmed up it made the noise of the spark plugs being fowled... (engine running rough and so forth) Stalled a couple of times in the middle of the road and took about 2 minutes to get started again... PAIN and one time SCARY.. (if anyone knows alcoa highway in knoxville... try stopping in the middle of it durring rush hour... scary!..anywho.

the car finally throws a CEL. It says 3 and 41. I look them up in the service manuel and check over what i could without my voltage tester. The next day my p13 came in the mail which had the OE sticker that said p13 from a bb4. It gives me the same codes.

code 3 - electrical problem in MAP sensor
code 41 - electrical problem in HO2S (heated o2 sensor)

i had to lengthen the o2 sensor wires because of the stupid egay header, so i'm, not suprised that it doesn't work right, because the wires i used were kinda corroded shealded ones from another wire harness i had laying around. and so the solder wouldn't flow right.

my friend just twisted the wires together to the map sensor and plugged it into the h22a4 map sensor. So i got some wire caps and twisted those together that way till i can solder those...

still got same CEL with that. it runs a little better than before but still something is wrong. When the car almost warmed up it would be hard to rev it to 4k, but once it got past it it would GO!!! finally some progress..but still not much. Timing is close but still acts to retarded. I'm stumped right now untill i can get my electrical tester. any tips or ideas. I searched some threads and one said that they connected the vacuum up wrong to the map sensor and some other things giving similar problems, but they were throwing different codes. I honestly think i got the hoses right but i'll post how those are later. I'm getting angry at the lude but i need it so i have to be nice to it... WHAT SHOULD I DO???!?!??!?!

    thank you guys.

Knock sensor is prob playing games with you. Fix those CEL. Recheck how you hooked up MAP. and replace o2 sensor if its bad. Both of those codes are kinda related to each other so if you fix one the other might go away.

that's one problem. The wire colors were different between the 97 wire harness and the 92 wire harness. So i matched them a,b,c to a,b,c but That doesn't mean that the 2 map sensors are different. and the o2 sensor i solder those one at a time. But i think i need to redo it anyway.. I'm having a hard time too trying to figure how to run all my vacuum hoses. I'll draw those up soon and post that..but me and the wife need food.

Redo your o2 sensor wiring since you resoldered. Which harness are you using? USe the 92 and use all the 92 parts you can including MAP and such.

I'm using the 92 lude harness because it was too much work to get the 97 to work. I'm using all the 97 lude sensor because the electrical plugs worked on all but the oil pressure switch i think. So i just changed the plug to the 97 lude. Someone told me that the h23 dizzy was different than the vtec dizzy so i went and got a h22a1 dizzy from ebay from the dizzy king guy. I was using the 97 MAP on the TB.

Would it be better to put the h23 IM on the h22a4 or is that not do able. I never did look into it. and I also don't remember which fuel rail and injectors i used. I think i put the h23 injectors on because of the difference in plugs for the injectors. is that a problem?

THe H23 dizzy works....Whoever told you that made you waste money. You need a 4th gen fuel rail/ injectors for an h22a. You should use the sensors from the 92 since the plugs are made for them. WHatever doesnt work you can replace wit hthe 97. Did you do an obd2-1 conversion on this?

a little update. I've been having a killer time getting it started, and so i took the dizzy off because i wanted to see how easy it would be to convert my motorcycle to electronic ignition (don't ask...or do if you have ideas)

and so i took off the cap to check out the guts and lo and behold i have WATER in it....i cleaned off a little bit of the water on the parts and on the cap, put it back on the lude and she fired right up first crank.... still runs like crap though. Time to search on how to remove said water.

and another update. i did some checking in my service manuel on how to fix those codes and everything works for the 3 CEL. but 41 i took off my o2 sensor and did the checks. It did terrible. Resistance to c and d is .9 not 10-40... not even close. and it has continuity between ground and c and d. i'd suspect it has something to do with the case being bashed in really good... heheheeh stupid low exhaust.
