    A/C help!!!

When I turn on my A/C it blows hot air. I think everything is working and it jes needs freon, but it uses r12 and i heard that its illegal now. So how do I retrofit it to use r134? I had to drive in the summer w/o a/c and I almost fainted. lol. My gerl is going crazy about the car not having a/c so i need to fix it this yr. Any help is very much appreciated.

i bought my retrofit kit at the junkyard in san bernardino for free.99. It was on a five finger discount that day. the local auto parts should have that kit in stock.

They make conversion kits for the r134a. Basicalyl just a fitting. You can still buy R12 they just dont produce it anymore.

But dont i need to flush out the a/c before i put in the r134? I heard somewhere that it could mess up my compressor if i dont flush it.

that is the proper way to do it. however, you can take the risk like me and not flushing anything out.

Im a noob at this and dont wanna mess anything up. Wat would be the cheapest and best way to get my a/c working again? SHould I go to Pep Boys and buy the kit and hope for the best or should i give it to a mechanic to flush it out and do it for me?

the cheapest and correct way of doing it is to get a retrofit kit and convert to r134 by a certified mech. anything else will be costly, if not now then later down the line when it fails for being misused or something.

you can get r12 but you need a license to prove you are allowed to handle it. it's not environmentally safe.

you can do the mechanical work yourself. just take out the compressor and drain the refrigerant out and fill it up with pag oil. I'm not sure how much though. go to honda and buy the kit from over there. they have the whole thing and it has instructions also. when you are done with that, just take it to a shop to have your a/c recharged. make sure that they vacuum your system first though.

You will need to draw the R12 out first. Then put the R134 in. When you mix both together you get a yellowish/green gunk which is what I have. Previous owner decided mixing both would be a wise idea. I need to flush out my complete system. Anyway you need IMACA certification for R12 (yes i got it lol) R134a is alright but its flammable too =O.

How Much Is Way Too Much?? I Mean, Just To Remove Your Compressor And Do The Retrofit Kit And Ac Evac And Recharge, Maybe Around 350 My Opinion.

If I were you, before I go running around recharging it, I would try to find out what caused the A/C System to lose it's charge in the first place. I made that mistake. My A/C worked great for a week, then quit again.
