    help please dropping transmission

okay im dropping my transmission out, so far i cant seem to get the lower ball joint apart from the lower control arm, i've read people saying that BFH should do it. is this true? i've been pounding away at it for a while now... also i kind of skipped around steps and i've taken off the drive plate bolts and i havent taken off te transmission housing bolts ( bolts to the engine ) does that matter? do i have to completely remove the front dogbone motor mount? or do i just disconnect the bolt from the top end of the motor mount to the engine mount? also i don't have a tranny jack so can i just use my low profile 2ton car jack to jack it up and down? do i have to tilt the engine downwards somehow to get the transmission out? any help would be great, thanks.

you do not have to remove the dog bone, just the tranny mount. use a puller on it and will come out way easier, yes you can use the floor jack to support and lower the tranny mount, from my experience i didn't have to till the engine, i belive you do have to remove the strut rod though

where in the desert are you located?

you dont need to remove the strut, just disconnect the fork from the lower control arm and continue banging away at the control arm area where it holds the ball joint. it also helps to put the jack against the arm and push it up every once in a while to put tension.

while it is not necessary to tolt the engine, it does help because the transmission will come out at an angle.

to put my tranny back in, i used an ATV/Motorcylce jack with a 2x4 supporting one end of the transmission.

the only issues ive had so far is lining the transmission back up and getting the tranny and engine to bolt in but with enough force it will go in. (that makes the 4th clutch job ive done :o )

time to go do a ae86 clutch

the lower ball joint sometimes gets frozen in there- i used a tuning fork and a bfm. just becarefull not to destroy the rubber gromit thats inbetween...

so i wont have to use a jack to hold up the engine when i remove the tranny mount ? i can just leave the front engine mount as is? but what if i wanted to take off the front engine mount? couldnt it tilt a lot easier?

then yea, id suggest supporting it with the stock jack and then use your pump jack for the tranny removal/replcaement
