I got a code for the VSS, bought a new one on ebay for $25. Replaced it, drove the car about 15 minutes speedometer worked fine and then it died again. Can this be a bad instrument cluster?

recheck your installation or check to see if the plug is plugged in all the way. Check that first then get back to us.

Are you still getting a CEL for VSS after installing the new one? That is, assuming you cleared the codes after installing the new sensor?Comment

it's probably the ebay part. a new one from honda costs about $120 vs $25 ebay. later.Comment

I plugged it in firmly, reset the ECU and drove it. Worked for a little bit and now its dead again... Can this be anyway related to the cluster?You have been defeated by a car with child locks, how embarassing...

ezy to fix, open up your vss, clean out the part on top that touching togethermetal need to contact with metal for it to work
