    Piston Ring Issues...

First off, my piston rings are bad and crapped up.. (thank to the previous owner) anywho, with that comes bad/burning oil and possibly WOT hold backs. I got $260 saved up already. Im almost sure im just gonna get another whole engine, or maybe i should just take it to the shop to get it fixed.. Ethier way, both will cost alot.. Should I just get another engine with better performance and higher cost of installation, or just get the piston rings fixed??. I just wanna hear ya'll advice on the whole situation... thanks Oh btw, I have a stock(except air system) f22a4 ...

Well honestly just putting it in the shop to get the piston rings fixed..But if im going to spend like $300 something on that, i might as well save up just a lil more for an engine...

Yeah for $2-300 dollars more you can pick you're self up a jdm f22b dohc. Its a direct drop in swap not to mention more power. Just an idea.

How do you know your piston rings are bad?

Just b/c you're burning a lot of oil doesn't mean bad piston rings. It can also mean bad worn out valve guides, leaks and some other bad seals.

Get a compression test before you go replacing any piston rings.

also get an estimate of a ring job, 200-300 sounds EXTREMELY cheap. i can see it if labor is only like $10-20 an hour....but honestly a ring job is a lot of work, pull the head, then pull the oil pan, unbolt rods, pull rods/pistons out. inspect bearings and journals and repalce if needed, hone cylinders, replace rings with new rings, reinstall rods/pistons, new head gasket etc and bolt it all back up.

im betting its gonna be more like 700-1200 with all parts....

forsure new engine might be the way, but make sure you know exactly what the problem is.

Yea, i'll be sure to make sure it is the rings tho.. Trust me it'll be around 300, (hopefully) besides, one of the guys working on the car is an old friend of my dads.. Also, we've been to this same guy about 4 or 5 different times with some of our other cars. But yea, i'll be sure to get that checked to make sure its the rings or another area.. thanks too! later yo!

                    pretty much...

even if you brought the pistons, rods, crank and bearings...installation would run you a couple undred.

but yea, make sure it is the rings though, may be valve guides or valve stem seals.
