    Distributor Problem

    Engine: H22
    Problem: External Coil Distributor

Here's whats happening, I have the distrubitor hooked up and I crank the engine over, It cranks just fine but I have no spark, I then proceeded to open the dizzy and check the wiring. I checked the wiring and found that 2 wires on the ignitor was switched around, I bought the dizzy used by the way from someone on here.

Now I wire it correctly and reinstall it onto the engine. Crank over and still no start. I then took out one of the spark plug wires and hooked up a spare plug to it.

I saw that there IS spark now, But still no start. I See that its sparking but it dosent look like a powerful spark.

    What could be the problem?

I tried another known working dizzy and It started right up, So the external coil is not the problem.

    poopy igniter.

have you tried taking the "working distributor's" igniter out and installing it in your "used" dizzy and seeing if it starts right up?

    anyhow, thats my .02

    good luck

I'm thinking its the igniter also, But when they go bad dont they just cut out? I didn't know they gave weak spark.

x's 2 on the coil. also check your distr. cap and rotor. if they are old and have a rusted surface, there may not be enough spark created by the rotor and cap.
