    Charging A/c

hey I have this a/c charger I got from wal mart to see if it will my A/C work, the thing is I cant find the place where to spray it in. It says its between the dash and compresser but I see it but it doesnt latch on right like it is too smal. Than I see a big port near the radiator it looks like it can spray in there but i dont think it goes there. Does anyboyd know exactly where to spray this stuff in? Its a/c Charger

The 90-93 Accord is based on R12 coolant. The crap you buy at wal-mart is R134 coolant. You need to buy the "retrofit" kit that allows you to use R134 on an R12 system. Basically, it is an adapter for your valves, and adds some fluid into your compressor system.

I repeat, you need a "retrofit" kit before you can use Wal-Mart recharging kits. Retrofit kits come with everything for a recharge too, so save those wal-mart cans for next year.

You can buy those retrofit kits anywhere, they should have them at walmart as well, they are somewhere in the range of 35-40 bucks. I bought mine at Autozone for $35.

BTW, the valve you use to charge the system is near the radiator on the passenger side of the car.

DO NOT attempt to charge the system through the high side (or smaller) of the two valves.

My a/c is not working, and I was thinking it needs to be rechaged..however, I see a sticker (stock) warning of r12. Then I see a sticker next to it that says it has a flourescent dye to test for leaks, that was placed in the car 6/29/98. I dunno wthe problem is, or what I need to do, but are you even able to put dye in r12? I thought it was a 134 thing only...

I used to work for Pep Boys and I believe you need a license to purchase coolant. I may be wrong though...

You probaly only need a license to buy R12 because it destroies the ozone, but R134 doesn't. That why R12 was banned eventhough it's better then R134.

Did you try filling the system with the engine running and ac turned on?
                        That's what worked for me.

Uh, you're not suppose to do that either. When the system is running the pressure in the low side tends to be about half of what it is when the system is off. At least, this is what I noticed the last time I had a guage hooked up to mine.

I remember talking to a A/C tech, he said to have the engine running and A/C on when filling the system.
also check the amount your supposed to fill the system with. if I remember right it's about 25oz. check the R12 sticker to be sure how much to fill it with.

Check the sticker; in our cars is 2-2.2 lbs so that's about 33oz.
