    Rock Solid Shifting

As of late I encountered a transmission shifting problem. The problem is when I want to shift the stick is incredibly hard to move. However, when the car is off, the stick shifts normally. I checked the clutch fluid level and its ok. Tranny fluid was recently filled. Clutch is brand new, and so is the T/O bearing. I suspect it may be the shift linkage binding somewhere. Does engine vibration affect shifting?

if it was the shift linkage i would think that it would not shift into gear while the car was off... at least i had this problem... my guess is that the clutch is not disengaging

update: ok its definately not the linkage. So I'm diagnosing some more and this is what I found. There is a chatter noise coming from the slave cylinder piston against the shifter fork when the engine turns on. It doesnt fit snug anymore when it should. There are no visible leaks in the clutch system and the reservoir is at normal height.

My guess is I need to bleed the clutch some more and maybe adjust the pedal height. I think an air bubble might have made its way into the system from the time of install to now and its affecting operation.

adjust the pedal. sounds like the slave isn't pushing in all the way to release.

Back up from the dead. Ok so the shifting issues are back. Since my first problem, I've changed the clutch slave cylinder and bled the clutch as well as adjusted the pedal so that it engages the clutch. The problem is this

After I rev high and try to shift the shifter is hard to move.
After I come to a stop after cruising down the freeway the shifter is rock solid yet again.
If I leave the car in gear and engage the clutch so as not to stall at a stop(after coming off the freeway) the car feels like it is gonna stall so I have to put it in neutral.

I am forced to shift anyway and this terrible sound radiates from the tranny.

I have searched and done research. Any input is appreciated as to the diagnosis of this problem.

                TIA

ive had the same issue a few months ago. i had to do two things. refill the tranny with honda mtf after i flushed it. and the pedal was loose. underneath the dash, it was loose. my mechanic adjusted it for me, and its all gravy. check that.

I have new fluid in and the pedal is adjusted to the max. Still not the solution. I'm thinking it is the TO bearing. The problem only happens at high rpms above 5k and after driving for a long period on the freeway.

But he said he replaced the master cylinder with a new one. I would check your slave cylinder. But then not all parts are reliable.

Actually Nail I replaced the slave cylinder not the master with an OEM one. But the master seems like a probable culprit now that I look at it. The shifting fails under hot conditions and after revving high from gear to gear. Also, although I've adjusted the clutch pedal all the way, the slave cylinder piston still rattles against the shift fork when in neutral.

                          -The TO bearing is new
                          -The slave cylinder is new
-Clutch has new fluid and has been bled properly
-Brand new flywheel clutch and pressure plate
                          -Shifter cables are not binding
-Short shifter replaced with stock shifter
-Clutch pedal adjusted all the way and cylinder is still rattling against fork
-Tranny has new MTF fluid and is filled to proper level

Clutch master is the only thing I'm not sure about. I checked for external leaks and none. Maybe the seals inside have worn away and there is no hold in pressure.

my money is on the clutch master cylinder. also a lil FYI...its a good idea to use a dab of UREA grease where the slave piston meets the fork.
