My car has an h23 swap and it was throwing a code 12 for egr valve so I bought a new egr valve and its still throwing the same code.Any suggestions on what could be my problem?

check the vaccum line (#16) going to that black box on the firewall, if that comes off, or gets a hole in it, it will cause it to throw the cel.... also make sure you didnt cross the vss plug with the plug that goes to the egr valve, they are exactly the same. but you will know if you did that b/c you speedo will not work, just a couple of things to look for.
which egr valve are you using with your swap? the h23 or the f22, i cant remember if there is a difference. seems like there was on mine.Last edited by 90Cb7sleeper; 10-19-2007, 02:22 PM.

lol I had a problem like that. Even bought a new EGR.
Then I read a cp[mike]-post and saw that the EGR uses the same style connector as the VSS. Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if you hadn't removed the vss/egr connectors in the first place, but its just something to check if you have.

easy way to test if the egr is working...turn off car...unplug vacuum line (don't just pull on it...get it to rotate then pull off) plug in a spare vacuum line...start car...suck on vacuum line...if car dies...EGR is good.
This test pulls the diaphram up...letting exhaust gas in...if you are idling, then it will kill the car. At highway speeds and cruising (not acceling), which is when the EGR operates, your engine speed is higher and the exhaust gas shouldn't kill it.
If the car doesn't die...diaphram issues...or the ports may be clogged.
Scary...could be the ecu...but not likely. If it is...you should be able to get another ecu for under 40 used.__
