90 accord NOOB.. maintenance and all

    Hello

I am new here, new to automotive sort of speak and what not. I am faced w/ a dilemna of some sort. I am curious if I should invest into this car anymore. The thing that bothers is that it has no A/C. ... The car is only 78k and pretty decent. Sure, there's rust here and there and minor dings, but it's the first car I've driven on and been through thick and thin. I am seriously considering keeping this car and trying to fix it up and learn on it. My folks talk bout getting a new car, but I think resale value I won't get much out of it and perhaps this car can last me through college.

Any inputs? If this car has A/C I will definately keep it. But I guess when I acquire more experience, knowledge, and tools, I will look into it.

    UPDATES

*A/C i think i will go to a shop and charge and thus to see what 'exactly' is wrong. How much would a charge cost? I got an estimate for about 60-70 bucks.

-Am going to ck the oil today, my dad say its leaking... What could it be?

    thanks..

    Thanks..

I would suggest asking your parents to help you fix up your car insted of getting a new one. Just a thought.

ya... financially we can't afford a loan, well we dont want to.

i am using my own to fix what i can and learn on it. im gonna start w/ the plugs. i just bout a 3 geez, but that is on the side and not a daily commute.

gonna pick up a spark plug gapper and some plugs and what not..

i tried looking at the coin gapper, i am not even sure how it works, know you have to get the plug in and set it to the gap and slide it out.. but not sure if the rubbing will hurt it, well im gonna buy it so visually it helps me..

      thanks

          hello,

thanks for the tips. i am unsure about the spark plug gapper. i went to checker's auto parts, and they had 2 diff ones ranging from 2.99-3.99.. i couldn't find the cheapo one :P.. i don't get which one to get.

          thanks..

          is this the one?

We're supposed to gap our plugs...?

FishyMan : Keep your car to work on and learn. At 78k you're just starting to break it in. I picked my car up with 80k close to ten years ago and have learned a lot since then.

There are some jobs you do not want to attempt with little or no knowledge but there are many jobs with are definitely feasible at this point.

Invest in a nice set of tools, some simple ones to start, go to Sears and get yourself a metric socket set (100 pc jobby will do) a set of screwdrivers, a jack, some jackstands and you're set for almost all of the jobs you will do.

The CB7s are perhaps the last of the modern era cars that are pretty easy to work on. Parts are inexpensive and used parts can be found everywhere. You will save a ton of money doing your own repairs as opposed to taking it to a shop.

Good luck and take advantage of the knowledge here on CB7Tuner. We're a pretty good bunch of guys and nobody here (unlike other forums) will call you a fucktard for asking silly questions.

. i agree with this guy. lol

there is a diy here about everything so check it.
buy the tools because they will help u a lot. spark plugs and wires are a good start. they will only help the car. the spark plug is already ready to install. but u should check it just to be sure. most of the guys here got pic so they might be able to help u with them too so uknow what we are talking about.
just broser around and do a lot of search. almost everything has been coverd.

that is how we all started.
are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet

I think your best bet is to buy yourself a Haynes repair book from an autoshop. Read it, learn it, make it your bible. Heck read it while your takin a crap! Lots of useful information and pretty pictures too. And let me get this straight... you're in Hawai'i? Thats so f*ckin cool!

Crap! I forgot about the manuals...

Go get the Haynes, Chilton's blows.

Click here for Online Honda Manual (PDF)

And Autozone also has some service manuals for the CB7. Look under Repair Info/Vehicle Repair Guides.

I agree...stick with the Haynes repair manual. Chiltons isn't as detailed and the last time I checked, it lacked alot of the information I was looking for that I ended up finding in the Haynes.

thanks.. got my vpower, now i gotta find a way to gap them.

i got the coin and it seems the ngk's are all smaller than .044 . i have to increase them, but all i have is the cheapo 99 cent one.

do i use pliers? or should i ask, how do i do it? i didn't get the 2.99 gappers.

hehe on the coin, it says .038 or so. i read that the manual recommends .044 if i'm not mistaken.

so i have to increase the gap to .042 (what im gonna try). but the thing is i'm not sure what i do to increase the gap. i understand i can decrease it by bending it in.

i am gonna try make this a DIY and post, if i get it successfully to help others like me.
