You could just reuse and have reconditioned the head you have. A machine shop can finish this job in one day, if they are not busy.
Finding a good, not buys machine shop around here is not so easy.
Plus, I didn't pay very much for the other head, and having all 8 valves replaced and getting everything reconditioned would have cost more than the new head did anyway.
Not to mention the fact that it is a DD and now I have a head down the road that I can send out for P&P without having to take the car down.

If the guy wants his car fixed ASAP, removing his original head and getting it reconditioned is best. I'd trust that over a used head he's unsure about and it won't be much different timewise if he lines things up right with a machine shop and bases his work around this. Having a spare head for later is a different matter.

I think the used head he is gettin has been inspected and milled a bit as I recall I need to double check with the dude that selling. Where he is at I am not sure if there are many machine shops in that area. There might be a few in Austin or so but I dunno about San Marcos since its out in the countray!

Perhaps, but generally, if you know what to look for, it isn't hard to find a good head, and there may be one local for cheap that someone just has laying around.
I have found quite a number of perfectly good heads now. In fact, I can't really think of one that I have had a problem with. Other people may not be so lucky.
I know in messing with the heads, that sometimes you have to dick with them to get them to sit back down, due to the return spring, but I wouldn't have expected it to be like that with the cam still in there.
I dunno, I didnt mess with it today. Going back down (with the new head*) Tues or Wed to finish the job. Just removed everything and broke all the head bolts today.
*if it is, in fact, ok, then I guess I just have a spare head to build
...like I would anyway if there was something wrong with it
The vtec lobe would not go back down like the rest. It was stuck in place when I pressed down on it. We didnt look at it fully we were busy breaking timing covers lol. Here are a few more pics.
