    Stuck in 3rd gear....

Most times it drives fine, but every so often, and more often than not now, lol, while driving normal speeds, the D4 light will come on bright and the car will become stuck in 3rd gear. You can come to a complete stop and it won't shift out of 3rd. You can move the shifter anywhere you want... When the D4 light is on, I have 3rd gear and Reverse, that's it. Oh, park obviously....

I'm suspecting the TCM.... I'm going to pull the codes in the morning. Does anyone have a list of codes for the tranny? I don't have a manual and the car is not driveable enough to even go pick one up, lol.

Oh, and does anyone know if the H22 TCM will work on a F series tranny? I have a TCM in my 93 I can yank out if it is in fact the problem, but I don't want to fry it if it won't work, lol.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Rob

Could be TCU or the shift solenoids.

I don't know if the H22 TCU will work on the F series tranny. You could go to the junkyard and grab one off a cb and try your luck with one of those.

here is the code list scroll to the bottom:

Thanks bro. I'm not sure what to think now. I plug into the diagnostics plug, turn on the key and get absolutely NOTHING. So.... anyone know? Does that mean I'm in need of a transmission?

Try the H22A TCM and see if it throws you something back. If the trans felt like it was shifting fine before then could be just the comp burnt out. And as I recall you can tell if you have a bad tcm if you open it up and it looks like some resistors are burnt toward the lower corner as I recall.

Okay. So. Here's where I'm at. Double checked my connection on the diagnostics port. Wasnt as good as it should've been. Got it to work. Threw a 15, but nothing for the trans, so it's looking like TCM is dead. I'm gonna try swapping them in the am, but it's cold, dark, and somehow I managed to draw a copious amount of blood while working, so.... it's gonna wait for tomorrow, lol. Thanks for the advice this evening fella's.

not sure what year your car is, but if its a 90 to make it work 100% right you should have a 90 tcm, same for 91, while 92 and 93 fully interchange. you can also use a 94-95 tcm but the light will be on all teh time even though there are no codes or performance issues.
and those things are expensive as fuck at salvage yards...if the yard knows how rare good ones are. The place I used to work at sold em for $175 exchange only and could never keep them on the shelf.

You might be in need of a transmission....

                  A manual transmission god dammit!

No manual on this car, lol. The 93, yessir, that's why I don't need the TCU out of it. It also works out well because if in fact the Tranny in my 92 is fried, I'll just pull the H trans outta the 93 and drop it in.

Swapping TCM's did nothing. Can't even get it out of park with the POF TCM. This sucks. This rules out my easy fix... FUCK!

Did you check the solenoids on the transmission? It's only a few bolts to take them off and check if the screens are clogged. I'd hate for you to replace a transmission when it could be something simple like that.

Got it fixed today. Turns out it WAS the TCM. Threw me for a loop, but whatever, it's back to normal....

I was gonna say, the prelude tcu will make you not shift out of park due to the shifter lock. what you could have done was to use something to poke...................... never mind, it's fixed anyways.

So THAT's why there's a zip tie around the lockout on my 93. I was wondering about that. Dammit,

Oh well. I got the ECU and TCM out of a 93 EX for 40 bucks, so I just installed both of them. Now I have a good TCM and no codes on the ECU. Two birds, one stone, lol. Wonder how the PT6 ECU will run on my motor, lol.
