once and for all : MOTOR MOUNT INSERTS

ive read like every thread about the motor mount inserts, and every single one says something different.

to my understanding PROTHANE makes a rear mount insert, and ENERGY SUSPENSION makes a front torque strut insert. correct?

i know that the front mount is easily available because i know people with them, but the rear mount is the one that causes all the confusion.

IF its a known fact that nobody makes a rear insert, then do they make rear inserts for preludes? because if so, i have a prelude rear mount that i could throw in, so i could get an insert for it.

antoine, i understand u have a rear mount insert? is this it? http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/P...Inserts/Honda/

i dont think the prelude mounts work, why dont you just use real urethane to fill them with? it fixes broken ones, and you get the solid effect, and lasts WAY longer than inserts do.. I posted it in the DYI forum

yeah i was just talking to antoine about that, i already ordered a can of casting compound.

and i matched up the rear prelude mount to the accord one, same size and shape, cept the rubber inside is slightly different. it shoudl work tho, and even if i needed to i could throw the prelude rear mount bracket onto the back of the motor.

one can=1lb, equals you can do front and rear mounts and have plenty left over.

ALSO! i found this out the hardway, dont use duck tape, use that caution tape to seal it up, it works TONS BETTER.

i'm here don't worry lol. I have an Energy Suspension rear motor mount insert. Energy Suspension making a front motor mount?....yes but i believe it was discontinued. If u look in the DIY section on the motor mount thread me and SteveB got into it a little bit. The product simply did not exist when i went looking for it, appeared, and then disappeared again....and now has reappeared again lol

Anyways me and mike have talked online and i have instructed him not to buy the insert because his engine is completely out of the car. He has now followed my advice and purchased a can of polyurethane blend to fill his motor mounts instead.

You can purchase this can from
          http://www.mcmaster.com/

          the part number is
          pt# 8644K18

Flexible Urethane Casting Compound 1 Pound Liquid, 94 Shore A
$ 23.51 Each (like $4 shipping and they are flippin' fast!!!)

That specific blend is the 94a shore compound. It is the hardest curing blend they carry. 1

This blend will come in 2 cans. U will fill like u've been cheated because one of the cans is only half full...its supposed to be its the hardener.

What u want to do is take out all of the motor mounts and duct tape (or use caution tape)one side if the motor mount very securely. Find something that will securely hold up the mounts while the blend is drying inside. Just have some kind of holdster that doesn't touch or interfere with the drying process and keep them as flat as possible. I believe i just used some wood, i had the filled mount between to peices of wood to perch them above the floor a couple of inches.

You are trying to make it so the tape won't leak out the polyurethane material so run ur finger across the edges and make sure there is a tight seal all the way around the mount. Fill them completely up but don't overflow them and if u have broken rubber in the mounts go ahead and wiggle them around a bit so the blend can make its way into all of the cracks. Be careful not to loosen the tape tho. The blend starts to harden in about 20 minutes so make haste but pour slowly. Let them sit for about a day untouched...yes, untouched don't get curious and stick ur finger in it lol!!! It will harden quite nicely in 24 hours so u can put it in the car by then and drop the engines weight on it...it will fully harden in 48 hours i believe. I may be a little off on my times but i remember it has to sit for 1 day atleast.

There will most likely be some left over...one can is more than enough to fill all 4 motor mounts. Do whatever u want with the rest of the compound...i only did 3 mounts because like mike mentioned above i already had the prothane rear insert. there was so much left over i decided to fill a paper towel tube.

Yours will only last about 10 yrs, give or take a couple years, since they arent bonded to the motor mount. They will shrivel up and die. Because of the Hot temperatures, they are prob just like the bushing kit they make, if you dont lube them they get fucked up after a while.
