    Auto Tranny D4 or D3?

Actually I saw one post about this on 6th gen accord on another web and they have a hot arguement about it.Some people insisted on D4 is good no matter what the driving condition is and put in D3 will have a bad MPG. While some others say like D3 in town and D4 on highway is the way to go and by doing this really save the tranny not working too hard.
I use D3 in town myself as well, but I am just curious about what's the really difference also pros and cons between using these two shift choices on our CB7s?
Any input is to be appreciated.

I don't think a car at this age...putting it in D4 or D3 will make any difference at all. D3 is just no overdrive, saves shifting. The car wasn meant to be driven in D4 so don't let anybody fool you.

o,thank you for your input,u mean that the car is meant to be driven in D4?
My feeling on D4 and D3 is that D3 tent to have some more burst power than D4.When I am in D4,the constent shifting between 4 and 3 just makes my car bit jumpy and I don't feel good at all. Maybe it's my tranny's problem cauz when I put in D3,all gone,no jumpy feeling at all.Smooth.
However,I saw some video clips show that some ppl use D3 when race and floor it,still a bit confused about this......

Its just another control for you to choose which gear you want your car in. But honda doesn't say "using D4 will cas premature transmission wear"

ok,now I am kind of clear about it.O,like if we put it in D3,how fast can we go? People say D3 is used to drive under 100km/h.Or there is some other technical thing here? Thank you for your input man.

I leave mine in D4 all the time, and never drive it in D3. I have no need to drive in D3, as there just aren't that many steep grades in the north TX area.

Don't listen to those goobs that obviously don't know what they're talking about tell you what speed to drive your automatic in and in what gear- drive it in D4, as there's no other need (unless you're in a very hilly/mountainous area, or hauling a trailer) for it to be in any other forward gear.

Alternately, its your car; do what you want with it. however I strongly advise using D4, not D3 for normal everyday use.

Thankyou for the input. I think I really need to flush my tranny not just change the fluid next week. When I am in D4,I can feel a vibration in the lower front engine bay at 60km/h at 2000-2300 rpm.It only happens when I push the gas pedal down like 1/3.It will gone if I release the pedal or push down a bit more.Lots of problems with my tranny in D4.Even a bit jerky............. I will try the flush thing,if it's not gonna do the job,then.....

I only put it in D3 when I want to downshift myself...thats really the only need to! Maybe if you had the cruise on and wanted to downshift to get up a hill.

yet still,I found out that there is a bit resistance in accelerating when I put in D3,the power burst in passing is better than D4 as I experienced.

its like a manual guys. 1>>> it only drives with the first gear. d2 it drives with first and second gear. and the car will need a little more power on these gears. d3 will drive on first second and third gear. d4 will drive in all of the gears.

1 is first gear, but 2 is second gear only. D3 is like D4, but doesnt shift up to fourth. And there really is no point to D3 unless its really hilly. Oh and the reason you felt "more of a power burst" in D3 is cuz youre in freaking third instead of fourth, duh.
