I wont. Atleast not on this.Originally posted by d112crzy View PostYeah, don't listen to the ass hat that's touched and handled over 200 ecu's and knows what will and won't damage an ecu.
I don't doubt that they are made to take some abuse, ECU's dont tend to mess up during collisions, and thats partly because they are properly secured.
Inertia is still in effect to the parts inside which means that obviously nothing is likely to break from it bouncing around unsecured. But.....
This still does nothing to cover the stress on the wiring bouncing around, could pull some out of the clips or break the wires somewhere in the casing, and then you have the amount of denting a ECU can take before it effects the parts inside. People pushing on mine was enough to dent it, I might trust standing on the edges, but definately not in the center.

You try pulling one of those wires out of the ecu plugs. It's MUCH harder than you're making it sound. Very unlikely to happen.
I understand prevention, but I also understand probability. Let me tell you, it's not very probable it will ever happen.
When's the last time you heard of any ONE person complain that their ecu got messed up due to it being loose?
Show me one, from any internet board, and I'll eat my words.

03 Sentra Spec V.
Owner: Me.
Recall for foam around ECU to be removed, causing ECU's to overheat.
Taken to dealership, tech removes ECU, takes out the foam and sticks the ECU back in. Doesn't bolt it up. This was done when the previous owner still had the car.
3 months after I buy the car, it starts randomly sputtering and dying, sometimes it'd start right back up, somtimes youd have to wait, and the wait would never be consistant.
I took it to dealership still under warranty, they searched for a month trying to get it to repeat the problem. After a month of not being able to get it to repeat the problem, they call and say to come pick it up, they can't do shit because theres nothing wrong.
They had driven a total of 112.3 miles and it hadn't done it. I made it .2 miles from picking it up and it dies on me.
They come push it back, no CEL lights, nothing, still wont start. They had 5 techs all looking for the problem in the wiring, one pulls the plates covering the ECU off, jiggles the wires and BAM, it starts!
Problem upon further inspection:
ECU wire broken inside it's casing, IIRC it was a maf related wire.
So, bouncing around unsecure landed me dead on the road several times and my car in the shop over a month, and it was because of a trained tech being lazy and thinking it wouldn't hurt anything just sitting in its spot. When in fact, he caused a wire to break inside its casing and it was untracable because of this.
Coming out of the clips is like you said, very unlikely to happen. But I, like the stupid ass tech, never would thought it would have broken a wire until it happened to me. So I wouldn't say it "wont ever happen".

It's actually a common problem on the SpecV, it happened to Val too.Originally posted by d112crzy View PostSounds like the tech broke the wire, or atleast exposed it. The ecu being loose and "bouncing around" probably made it worse.
Plus, there's no wires inside our ecu's.
Fortunately the cb7 isn't run by a nissan ECU, there are no wires, and there is really no problem.

Yeah if this is how people react it really turns you off of ever doing another DIY.Originally posted by 92turboaccord View Postthis is the reason i stopped posting cause what you like no matter how nice it is or how ling it takes someone will talk shit and tell you "that was a waste of time or thats stupid" everyone does things different theres only a handfull of people on here that are not a**holes good diy
Serious question, do you secure the ECU to anything when you install them?Originally posted by d112crzy View PostYeah, don't listen to the ass hat that's touched and handled over 200 ecu's and knows what will and won't damage an ecu.

And the top tuners will have the same answers as well.

what a fukin baby..Originally posted by topcop182 View PostI think that this is a little redundant and more of a attack at my DIY. the case sandwiches the ecu to the car, why would someone want to waste their time getting foam and drilling holes into the protective plate? This DIY is pretty much the biggest waste of time I have ever heard of. and BTW nothing about my install was sloppy.

Not starting crap but you were giving a scenario that was straight from the horses mouth and your still wanting to deny that it can actually happen me personally from what your saying and how you do business id never personally go to you for anything at all this is a great diy for those that are actually worried about their ecu and in case that ultra rare freak accident happens that the ecu happens to move and pull a wire or somethingOriginally posted by d112crzy View PostYou try pulling one of those wires out of the ecu plugs.
