Found a local deal on a Canon 85 f/1.8 for $300!!!!!
I think im going to get it. Basketball season is approaching quickly.

Personally I would look to see if you could get a D80. D50 is a great camera, i used to shoot with it when i was in college. D80 is just newer technology and has a larger display screen. I got a used D200 recently for a backup and paid 650 so D80 should be available for not more than 500.

I paid 550 for my d200 in perfect shape with all original packaging, box, etc. I've since some nice ones on craigslist for around the same cost, some less some more. One can be had for 500 if you are patient.

Don't buy a d50. Unless it's like 200 dollars...

Just got my 85mm f/1.8 last night for $300!

Excuse the dust, I havent had a chance to clean it yet. Its all exterior dust i promise!

I am loving my 85mm .. freakin crazy great lens!

One thing I did tho, I got rid of that funky lens hod (why does Canon dooo thhaat?)
and went to eBay and found a nice screw in type .. muucch better!

Mine didnt come with a hood, so I am going to buy the $10 ebay one to use.

Its a manual focus lens, which is extremely inconvienient. Also the brand is not very well known, I could not find very many reviews about that brand.
Id search for an AF wide angle from a well known third part brand that isnt a prime. Zoom lenses are much more convenient than primes in the WA world.

If you are looking for an UWA lens, I would seriously look into getting the Sigma 10-20mm!

The ones Zelseman listed above are all good lenses though

Tokina 12-24 DX II has awesome reviews, and it autofocuses on your d40. 500 bucks.

Fisheye status tokina 10-17 is another cool lens. Or the tokina 11-16 2.8.
