Gotta love drivers who aren't paying attention

Pretty sure all 4 tires are like this.
If they don't "burn off" by the weekend I'll take it up to Discount tire.
Hopefully (They've been fantastic in the past) they cover this under their warranty program.

    Story:
I was going about 80 and someone pulled out in front of me. The resulting tire death was heard over my music.
My ABS doesn't work, and I was going to crash into him. I let off a bit and steered into the other lane. I promptly almost hit another car, but was able to come to a complete stop.
I got back on the gas and drove off.
    You couldn't see behind me.

I got to school (10 more miles of driving) and parked on the grass. The grass you see stuck to the tire?
That's because the tire is still warm and moist, and very very sticky.
    MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

It looks to me like its feathering on this outside edge, which is an alignment issue, it would be flat from sliding, so discount tire wont be able to help you, unless they do alignments now.

That feathering is only in that spot. It's from so much stress being exerted on the tire.
I keep looking at it and noticing more and more of it is melted through.

In the past: They've replaced tires that very clearly worn because of alignments.
      I like them a lot.

Guess who'd be at fault if you had hit them?

I briefly considered not even hitting the brakes.
Gonna get in an accident that bad might as well REALLY total the car.

I drove past it in the dark on my way home.
Dark dark black lines about 150 feet long.

It's a tricky place to stop, but if I get the chance I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

Sorry but if hard braking/cornering wears your tire down like that you have pure crap tires. Not trying to start anything but I drove my car HARD around corners all the time and had no issues with quality tires.

I know what you mean, but you understand I was going roughly 80 mph to full stop, right?

I've pulled my ebrake at 80mph and caused less damage. I wonder if you didn't drive over one of those grooves in the road to wake people-well maybe you hit a groove while the tire was locked up.

I dunno. I agree that the damage on the tire is excessive for locking up the tire. I pull my ebrake regularly on one car at higher speeds and I have never seen a flat spot like that on any of the tires.

                  Just saying.

                  And fuck that driver. Asshole.

Kuhmo solus KR21? Kuhmos tend to be on the cheaper end, the rubber isn't the worst but not the greatest when grip is concerned

I just purchased a set of slightly used take off michelin defenders with 12/32nds and they're a nice tire. I had to make a panic stop two days back, but i modulated the brakes so i didn't skid. It seems like the michelins have a predictable breakaway from grip to lockup so that probably helped me not roast them when stopping.
