ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    p12 ecu question

    I'm going to buy a p12 ecu, but I noticed that while they all begin with the model # 37820-P12, they end with a different model #. For example, I've seen these three so far:
    37820-P12-A02
    37820-P12-A00
    37820-P12-A52

    Does it make a difference? As long as the model # begins with 37820-P12-A__ will it work? Anyone know what the last two numbers mean?

    Lastly, does it make a difference if the ecu is for a MT or AT? Or is this not a concern since the tcu handles the transmission? I ask because the people advertising p12 ecu's often advertise that it's for a MT or AT. Why advertise this if it doesn't matter?

    I believe you need an Automatic ECU to work with the TCU as that determines how the auto trans shifts. If it was Manual it wouldn't matter either way because there is no TCU. I believe that throws a CEL though. If I'm incorrect somebody will correct me.

      IIRC,
      A00 = USDM MT
      A02 = Non USDM MT
      A52 = USDM AT

      If it was L0x or L5x they would be California emissions ECUs.

      I don't think you should have any issues in a manual car, but an auto I'd go for the auto ECU. There's some debate over whether the mapping is the same, since they do designate a difference in the two ECUs.

      I've got a 37820-P12-A51 in my 5 speed coupe. It's for the California emissions 4 speed auto 'lude. Hasn't given me any trouble at all.

        That is what part of the last three digits tells you. Whether or no tthe ECU is M/T or A/T.

        The letter is the location code A = USDM, L = USDM (Cal. Em), G = EDM & J = JDM. The next number is the transmition type 0 = Manual & 5 = Automatic. The third digit (0-1-2) represents the version number of that particular ECU

        37820-P12-A02 = (USDM M/T ver.2)
        37820-P12-A00 = (USDM M/T ver.0 - Original)
        37820-P12-A52 = (USDM A/T ver.2)
